SIMON Ferry believes Town have laid down the marker for their League One promotion push, and urged the club’s supporters to back them every step of the way.

Swindon’s 1-0 win at Southampton on Tuesday night was arguably their best performance of the campaign, and they were roared on to the memorable victory by more than 2,000 travelling supporters.

Danny Wilson’s side are now firmly cemented in the play-offs and only five points adrift of an automatic promotion spot, and Ferry is confident they can achieve their goal with the fans’ help.

“Southampton was a great result and that sets the marker down for us now going into the run-in,” explained the midfielder.

“We had two bad results, but to bounce back and beat Brighton and Southampton is superb and the boys are absolutely buzzing.

“People thought we were just going to slip away now but we always had the belief that we would come back and start winning games again, and that’s what we’ve done.

“We’ve shown that even when we do take a couple of knock backs we will come straight back again and go at it.

“The fans played a massive part though - they were brilliant and have been all season, especially away from home.

“That’s exactly what we need. We’ve had decent crowds everywhere and if they could keep it up until the end of the season then the boys would really appreciate it.”

Ferry will miss Saturday’s game against table-toppers Norwich through a one-game suspension, having been sent off at St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday night.

And the 22-year-old is “devastated” to miss Town’s clash with the Canaries, after questioning whether he deserved both of the late bookings he received.

“In the first one he was going for me and I was going for him, so I thought he should have booked both of us, but the referee thought I went in worse than their player did,” said the on-loan Celtic man.

“For the second I didn’t think I touched him and the boy started rolling about when there was nothing in it. It’s never a booking but the referee was under pressure with the fans on his back.

“I’m devastated to miss Norwich on Saturday - it’s one of the biggest games of the season. But there’s boys who came come in and do a good job, so I’m sure we will be fine.”
