FROM THE DUGOUT: Wilson's praise for Town troops following Norwich point

DANNY Wilson praised the character of his players after seeing Town come from behind to snatch a last-gasp equaliser against Norwich yesterday at the County Ground.

Grant Holt's 52nd-minute header - his 28th goal of the season - looked to have won the game for the League One leaders.

But Gordon Greer nodded home in the second minute of injury time to secure an important point.

“We have played the best team in the league, come out with a point and I think we deserved it," said Wilson.

“I thought we really pushed the game and took it to them in the second half.

“It was disappointing to lose the goal, but we showed great character to come back against a team of Norwich's quality.

“Maybe it was about the right scoreline, as we certainly didn't deserve to lose it."

Wilson believed his side should have been awarded a first-half penalty when debutant Frank Nouble seemed to be brought down my Michael Nelson just inside the area.

However, after hearing referee Scott Mathieson's assessment of the situation, the boss was happy to calm his protests.

“I thought it was a penalty, but the referee's view was that the boy played the ball on to Frank and that's why the direction of it didn't change," said Swindon's boss.

“I like Scott (Mathieson, referee) a lot, so I won't argue with that. If that's what he's seen then that's fine by me, although at the time I thought it was nothing but a penalty."

Town pressed hard for their equaliser and it looked like their chance had gone when Norwich keeper Fraser Forster produced a stunning late save to deny them.

However, they got their rewards just seconds later.

“The save from Forster at the end was top draw and one of the best you will see in any division all season," said Wilson.

“Jon (Douglas) caught it fantastically well and it's flying in but somehow he got his hands to it.

“But we didn't get disappointed and from the corner we concentrated, put a terrific ball in, and as soon as I saw Gordon rise I knew it was going in – it was a fantastic header.

“The players should take big credit because they have really got up for the game, and that isn't easy when you're having so many tough games with a limited squad.

“Norwich are the best footballing team in this division and are on top of their game right now. They will be disappointed to have not won the game, particularly so late on, but I you look at the bigger picture then a draw was a fair result.”

DW is being diplomatic in saying we deserved a point. Actually, whilst very happy with the result, I felt that we could have nicked all 3. Norwich were a good compact side, but at times we ran them ragged with some neat passing. Had a quick peek at the NC site and you'd think the game was totally one sided - in favour of them!! Ferry was missed and with Paynter out, I reckon that made the difference. Still, all credit to the lads that played. Incidentally, I guessed all of DWs sub decision well before he made them! Not that I'm DW...there's only 1 DW and 1 STFC! You Redzzzzzzzzz!

Just a quick comment on the way that we now play right through 90+ mins. Yet another bit of evidence that the squad continues to learn and develop under the first class coaching team we now have. I agree Norwich are the best side in the league, BUT we matched them throughout the game and might just have sneeked 3 points. Happy with 1 though and the performance.

OK chaps now how many points do we need for automatic promotion ? And perhaps more aptly, how many to secure a place in the play-offs ?

Look at the possession figures on BBC. 58% 42%.
It was their defenders who hoofed it into the crowd

I think 78 will be enough to make playoffs. Would be very disappointed if we didn't make that. Autos will be about 86, also achievable but will require us to beat Leeds and hope Norwich beat them next Saturday. Looking at our remaining fixtures 16 points should be a realistic target which would put us on 83. Therefore meaning we will need a 1 or 2 big results to get 2nd place as well as concentrating on the 'easier' games. Either way its going to be a fantastic end to season and I can't wait.

Thanks for that ! A few of the teams we have to face will not have a great deal to play for and will experiment with unproven youngsters, etc., so I reckon we should get about 80. That`s if we maintain the do or die spirit and the fans continue to roar them on at home and away. It seems to me that there are several teams good enough to make dingdongs of it in the play-offs and anything can happen. It wiil, at least, have been a great season. COME ON YOU REDS !

Good team effort yesterday but it makes me wonder what sort of team we will have next season?
are best players by a mile are Ferry Sheenan Ward and then we also have Darby Nouble and Ritchie who are lalso oan players.
Are any of these players possible perm deals?

Well Leicester City went up last year fielding 5 loan players and they haven't done too bad this term!!! I'm sure once our fate is determined as to what division we are in the budgets will be worked accordingly and squad assembled. In DW & AF we trust.

Well that depends on two things doesn't it:
1) season ticket sales= wage budget
2)league status = desire to stay at town.

Just goes to show how important the next few weeks are.

Nice comments from Danny and pretty spot on. We have without any doubt one of the best managers outside the premiership and better than some in that division too so why were fans Booing his decision to take Charlie off yesterday. As much as we all like Charlie I felt the change did some good and Pericard gave the Norwich thugs at the back something else to think about. I did not agree in taking off Charlie but will always back the managers decision but certainly would not boo the decision. What complete and utter childish idiots booing when we are 4th and having a storming season and playing some of the best football seen for many years at the County Ground. Some fans expect just too much and are for some reason looking for any little situation to have a go and neg out. Carry on like that and we will loose one of the best managers this club has had for years.
And get of Pericard's back this guy has clearly not been fit since coming here and fans need to realise that. I'm quite sure that the fact we beat quite a few clubs for his signature and Carlisle fans were gutted when he left and even ask Norwich fans what they think of him apparently he destroyed them when playing for Carlisle against them and heard the same from MK Dons when they played Carlisle. Its quite clear to me it will take Vince some time to shake off the injuries and settle down in the side but I have seen glimpses of what he can do and though he did well when coming on Saturday. Trouble with some of our fans is they demand instant success but all I can say is be patient, take Kevin Amankwah for one who when he came here was awful but Danny has transformed the guy into a fantastic player so I'm sure he and his coaching staff will do the same with big Vince. BUT if you want to boo then go and find another club.

Mikek: Wind your neck in! The booing was not anything to do with the manager or anything negative about the way the club is playing, it was more to do with disappointment with Charlie being subbed when he was actually playing very well......so stop rabbiting on about the booing...please

I will say what I think and am entitled to my opinion so why don,t you shut your neck up.By the way you have replied you may well have been one of the idiots that were booing. For all we know fans could have been booing Danny, Charlie coming off or even Pericard coming on but my point is keep it for the opposition not our own.

We did ok saturday but I think we could have taken Norwich for all 3 points if Ward had been left wide right. We seemed to lose some width in the second half and their central pair were very strong. Having said this, I would have taken a point - especially in the heart breaking manor in which we did!

Totally agree with Mikek. Danny has a knack for turning ordinary players into skillfull team players. He is gradually turning us into a team that is both hard to beat, and entertaining.

Who can argue with his substitution when Holt's goal seemed to knock some of the stuffing out of us, but back we came in a more professional way than Swindon teams of the past. Not bad when half the team is out injured!

Come on folks, football is all about passionate opinions. I don't think booing is the right way to express disappointment but it's hard to remain coldly logical in the heat of the moment. Wilson has been in the game long enough to be aware that fans will always voice their opinions if they disagree with his decisions. I'm sure he is big enough to take it. And I bet he has received a lot worse stick at some of his previous clubs. He knows we are all delighted with what he has done for us. But that doesn't mean we have to agree with everything he does or says. I think he was wrong to take Austin off, just as I think he was wrong to drop him for the MK game. Nobody knows whether we would have won, lost or drawn yesterday if Austin had stayed on the pitch. We could argue that one for ever. Of course we should give Pericard a chance, but if - as someone suggested - he's unfit, he shouldn't be playing should he? I don't believe anyone was being anti-Pericard yesterday. They were just being passionately pro-Austin. I think we're all agreed that we want the County Ground to be a cauldron of passion that intimidates the opposition. You can't turn that emotion on and off like a tap.

Well Done Swindon on yet another Fantastic game - i am so glad we renewed our season tickets last week!
As for the booing of Charlie Austin, he was so heavily marked throughout the game, I can see why DW gave someone else the chance.
What a briliant way to end 93 mins!

PS - I am glad my sons can not understand the "singing" in the town end.

Hope you read what Danny Wilson had to say on the matter you complete moron. Booing is very negative and its unclear as Danny said what the booing was aimed at.
