DANNY Wilson praised the character of his players after seeing Town come from behind to snatch a last-gasp equaliser against Norwich yesterday at the County Ground.

Grant Holt's 52nd-minute header - his 28th goal of the season - looked to have won the game for the League One leaders.

But Gordon Greer nodded home in the second minute of injury time to secure an important point.

“We have played the best team in the league, come out with a point and I think we deserved it," said Wilson.

“I thought we really pushed the game and took it to them in the second half.

“It was disappointing to lose the goal, but we showed great character to come back against a team of Norwich's quality.

“Maybe it was about the right scoreline, as we certainly didn't deserve to lose it."

Wilson believed his side should have been awarded a first-half penalty when debutant Frank Nouble seemed to be brought down my Michael Nelson just inside the area.

However, after hearing referee Scott Mathieson's assessment of the situation, the boss was happy to calm his protests.

“I thought it was a penalty, but the referee's view was that the boy played the ball on to Frank and that's why the direction of it didn't change," said Swindon's boss.

“I like Scott (Mathieson, referee) a lot, so I won't argue with that. If that's what he's seen then that's fine by me, although at the time I thought it was nothing but a penalty."

Town pressed hard for their equaliser and it looked like their chance had gone when Norwich keeper Fraser Forster produced a stunning late save to deny them.

However, they got their rewards just seconds later.

“The save from Forster at the end was top draw and one of the best you will see in any division all season," said Wilson.

“Jon (Douglas) caught it fantastically well and it's flying in but somehow he got his hands to it.

“But we didn't get disappointed and from the corner we concentrated, put a terrific ball in, and as soon as I saw Gordon rise I knew it was going in – it was a fantastic header.

“The players should take big credit because they have really got up for the game, and that isn't easy when you're having so many tough games with a limited squad.

“Norwich are the best footballing team in this division and are on top of their game right now. They will be disappointed to have not won the game, particularly so late on, but I you look at the bigger picture then a draw was a fair result.”
