How we beat the Saints photo ban

SOUTHAMPTON may have banned all press photographers from St Mary's this season - but that didn't stop the Advertiser from bringing Town fans all the action from last night's game.

And while sometimes fans and clubs are labelled as 'plastics', it was the players who yesterday took on the form of the artificial substance.

As Swindon thumped the Johnstone's Paint Trophy holders 3-0 on their own patch to progress to the second round of the competition, we were left unable to print images of the match unless we paid Southampton for their own copies.

But, along with almost every paper - regional and national - across the country, we boycotted that idea and decided to come up with something original and innovative instead.

That was where Subbuteo came in. Several members of the sports desk raided their parents' attics and came up with quite a collection of items from the childhood game.

And after a quick paint-job we were able to go back to our youths and recreate the key moments from Town's drubbing of the Saints.

Pictured right are some of the best images from last night's action.

Sky have pics because they can buy them, its like at Alton tower's where you have to pay to get official pics from you on the ride.

I'd have thought there would be a bit more excitment at Charlie's second. There are a few in the stand looking quite nonchalant about the whole thing....but then beating Southampton is becoming quite common.

I love the fact that Saints have reduced the media to this!

I wonder if someone could be paid to re-create Premier League goals using Fifa 98 for local TV. That would get around Sky’s ridiculous "ban" on moving pictures.

BTW if anyone should be coughing up for photo’s then maybe it should be Newscorpe that sells a complete package to papers like the Swindon Advertiser.

If you had to wear a strip like Saints players do this season, you'd ban photographers as well! Well done Swindon Advertiser for fun pix.

Unfortunately, it makes the Adver more like a comic than ever ... not funny to treat your readership as imbeciles!

Donkey...what a miserable old got you sound like.

Good one Adver!

The 'comic' idea has already been done, by Plymouth's photographer/artist on the first game of the season.

With you there terrier. Donkey - its a bit of fun in light of a stupid and petty decision taken by Southampton. The adver are quite right not to pay for the photos.

Perhaps this might be the begining of a trend. Instead of pics of the PM we could have pics of a muppet. Which leads me to wondering, which particular muppet would stand in for dave?
