SWINDON TOWN: Boss expects different Saints performance

DANNY Wilson believes Swindon’s fans will see a different Southampton side tomorrow to the one which was dismantled at St Mary’s last week - because they will care.

Town eased to a 3-0 win when the sides met in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, but they clash in League One action this weekend at the County Ground both hoping to climb away from the wrong end of the table.

And Swindon manager Wilson reckons the Saints will have the right attitude this time around with three points at stake.

“They (Southampton) have had a couple of poor results by their standards, and will be looking to put it back on track,” he explained.

“Particularly after us going there and getting a great result, that will be a little bit of a thorn which is still sticking in them. It will be very fresh.

“I think it will be a totally different game to what we had down there. Maybe the mindset of them was possibly that it didn’t matter too much, but now it matters. The league matters and their mindset will be for three points on Saturday.”

Influential duo Charlie Austin and Jonathan Douglas have both sat out training this week with hamstring complaints, but the pair are expected to be passed fit to play tomorrow.

And Paul Caddis could return at right-back having skippered Scotland Under 21s to European Championship qualification.

“Charlie hasn’t been training for a few days as he has a bit of a tight hamstring, and Jon Douglas was the same in the early part of the week, but they both look like they will be okay,” said Wilson.

“Paul Caddis came through his games fine which is good news. He played two very tough games in the space of a few days, so will be having a decent rest and then we will see how he is on Friday.”

Why should it matter what Southampton do, surely if Danny had any confidence in his squad he would be saying that it doesn't matter what team turns up, those are our 3 points and they aren't having 'em. Yet again Danny is trying to soften the blow before the possibility of another disappointment. Danny, talk about us and what we are gonna do, not them. I don't care what Southampton team turns up, I expect a win.

Maybe he's trying to take the pressure off the team of the hunger from the fans and the importance of taking a win on Saturday by talking about the opposition.. Alex Ferguson does it quite alot if you pay attention closely..

Danny is trying to cover his proverbial "backside", in case the winless run continues !

Some of you need to get a grip, questioning Wilson's motivational skills. I know some of you are a bit slow, but you do realise that these comments are from the Thursday press conference that takes place before every game, don't you? It has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on what he says and does on the training ground or in the dressing room.

Perhaps you'd prefer it if he followed the Pardew approach - I seem to remember before our game at St Mary's last season, he said that we would be desperate not to lose and suggested we would celebrate a draw as if it was a win. The man's arrogance knows no bounds and his words were rammed down his throat after the game.

Jesus Christ - I hope we win on Sat for one reason alone - purely to have another few days where all you "fans" don't bother turning up to post your constant insane drival of pointless moaning!
.
It shocking how quite it got after the Saints cup game and despite a good point at unbeaten Carlisle - you are back to moaning simply for moaning sake!

Take the Wembley play off final last season, and the long string of 1/2 a game performances last season.Yes, I do question Wilsons motovational skills..he is nowhere near forcefull enough.

Marvellous, isn't it? A person is "slow" or "a moaner" just because he doesn't share your point of view. I don't want to get on Wilson's back. But on the other hand, I think the circumstances make it reasonable for a supporter to wonder what caused us to perform so badly at the end of last season and the beginning of this one. Ah well, maybe slow people like me shouldn't have the impertinence to join in the discussion.

Its not about having a different opinion - its about moaning for moaning sake!
.
Each article published sees people jump on something in it just to have a moan - even if it has nothing to do with ehat is really going on - i.e. DW is asked about Southampton and say he expects a different perfromance from them - then on come the moaners complaining about him talking about Southampton!
.
Thats what I'm p1ssed off at - moaning at him just because!

Totally agree London Red....
There are too many moaners on this site, who will 'jump' on any comment made and blow it out of proportion...
Do they expect Danny to say "Saints are **** and we will cane them on Saturday"....
Get a grip!!!

The obvious fact is that the 'quality' of a manager depends purely on results. When a manager is not getting good results every aspect of his managerial skills will be examined and found wanting by some 'fans'. Conversely when results are going his way he is going to be put on a pedestal and feted as a genius. As far as DW is concerned and based on his time at Swindon a more reasoning observer would conclude that he has been very successful.

Mcnamee poor on wet pitches, awesome on dry. Pericard likely to enjoy the heavier pitches as is dossevi and Morrison. Dw great manager, fit ton is the kiddy too. To me only two mistakes, that's all. Playing and persisting with prutton and rose. Now we have sheen , Kennedy and super ferry animal we will be difficult to break down again. Whether u like it or not Morrison is the future....

If you think there are too many moaners on this site, would you also think there are too many who would refuse to see a weakness if it jumped up and smacked them in the face? I happen to think there is nothing wrong with raising legitimate questions about signings, team selection etc. We all want the same thing. Mindless criticism won't help us get there, but nor will blind loyalty. The Southampton thing is just a pointless distraction, caused by the Adver making too big a deal of Wilson's reply to their question.

Yes legitimate concerns are fine. It's a shame they are too few far between on these boards and dominated by moans like the Saints comment.
