HUNDREDS of football boots, playing kits and Premier League football shirts are on their way to Zambia as part of the Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust Zambian Appeal 2011.

The donations, which are currently in transit, are being transported by DHL.

The company have been instrumental in getting the donations from Swindon and into the Zambia with the journey expected to take between eight and 10 days.

The donations have been collected and stored at the Big Yellow Self Storage on Drakes Way in the lead up to their despatch since the appeal started just under a year ago.

Mandy Lloyd, Area Sales Manager at DHL Express, said: “We are proud to be involved with such a worthwhile cause by transporting the donations from Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust out to children in Zambia. The boots, shorts and kit will make a huge difference to the local communities and we’re glad to play a part in the appeal.”

The donations will be joined in next week by a coaching team made up of Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust coaches.

The team will spend eight days in the town of Livingstone and deliver a coaching programme to local football teams and schools, coach education to youth workers and community coaches and deliver a football festival for local Zambian teams.

Jon Holloway, Football in the Community development manager, said: “It is great to see the amazing amount of donations made from local people now on its way to Zambia.

“We cannot wait to follow the donations over in early December and distribute to the local community of Livingstone.

“A massive thank you must go to Mandy Lloyd at DHL for organising the transport of the donations because without their support and work the kit would not reach one of the poorest regions of Africa, and also to the Big Yellow Self Storage for their support in helping collect and store the donations”

Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust would like to thank everybody who has donated kit and equipment including Urban 18, Freddie Austin (Charlie’s father), Any Davitt, John Roberts, Craig Curtis and Graham Davis for their financial support, enabling the Trust to purchase 100 balls from Alive & Kicking who employ local Zambians to stitch their footballs.
