STEVE Evans has once again lavished praise on Town boss Paolo Di Canio, hailing his enthusiasm and passion as ‘fantastic to see’.
Back in September, the Crawley boss had referred to Swindon’s upcoming visit to the Broadfield Stadium as ‘the Di Canio circus rolling into Town’.
Those comments caused Di Canio to respond by saying he had never heard of Evans, before promptly guiding the Robins to a 3-0 win over the Reds - their first away league win of the season.
Last month, Evans’ showered compliments on Di Canio, saying that he has proven his capabilities as a manager and that his profile has been great for League Two as a whole.
And the 49-year is looking forward to pitting his wits against the Italian once again tonight.
“Swindon Town are a quality team with a number of exceptional players and a big name but very talented manager in Paolo Di Canio,” said Evans.
“He gets knocked by many for his enthusiasm and passion but for me it is fantastic to see.
“As a Celtic supporter I watched that same enthusiasm from him when he played and I look forward to seeing him on Tuesday.
“No matter what spin is put on the match, it is three points at stake and nothing else but I accept it is a very important three points.”
It is a big week for Crawley, with tonight’s promotion clash followed by their FA Cup fifth-round tie with Premier League Stoke at the weekend.
But Evans was keen to keep the focus of his player firmly on securing victory at the County Ground.
“We all know the size of our task, but we have to focus on Swindon Town first and only after that can we think about Stoke City,” he added.
“But I have seen enough already to know that there is the highest ever mountain in front of us if we are to cause another big FA Cup upset.”

It'll be interesting to see, (as Evans has a far worse track record than DiCanio will, I'd imagine, will ever have), what sort of punishment he receives for the Cheltenham game - PDC's punishments appear to be getting more severe after ever incident, even though the incidents themselves do not reflect this.
If you look at Evans, we have, notwithstanding the recent incidents which have been covered -
2005 - suspended for using insulting or abusive words to a match official
2006 - escorted by police from Blundell Park for abusing another official
2006 - sent from the dugout for abusing an opposition player
2008-2009 season - 10 match ban for abusive behaviour
With a spattering of bans from the game by the FA for fraud, pledging his future to Boston only a fortnight before jumping ship to Crawley, the allegations of financial irregularities which have been levelled more recently at Crawley... Why is this joker still allowed to manage a football club? I'll be royally disappointed if he's not given a ban of at least the length of PDCs for his latest shenanigans.

It does beg the question, who'd want him running their club...?

While he does get results there is another side to his game which at best could be described as "dirty gamesmanship". His antics here last season will not be forgotten and his words about PDC earlier this season neither. It will be interesting to watch his antics again tonight. Perhaps its no bad thing that diCanio is in the stands tonight, given Evans track record and his very large repertoire of wind ups on the touchline, a truly despicable piece of work.
Of course we all want us to win tonight, and I hope the lads hit the form we all know they can. I'd love the scoreline tonight to be one thing, emphatic in our favour.
