SWINDON TOWN: Passion is my only crime - Di Canio

PAOLO Di Canio feels his reputation could be playing a part in decisions made against him as the Town boss prepares to serve the first of a two-match touchline ban tonight.

The Italian was given the punishment by the FA last Friday after he was sent off for the third time this season in the 1-0 win over Macclesfield last month.

Di Canio’s fiery temperament as a player, coupled with his infamous push on referee Paul Alcock back in 1998, has seen him develop a reputation that he fears could be playing a part in decisions that have gone against him since becoming a manager.

The Town boss said: “It is like if I stole an apple, I would go in the prison for seven days.

“I get out, then go to Tesco’s but someone is there who is against me, calls the police and tells them that they think I wanted to steal an apple.

“They would have to prove this, but there is no evidence that I am guilty, so how would they judge me?

“Guilty just because I stole an apple in the past?

“So it could be my reputation, but what is wrong with Paolo Di Canio’s reputation?

“Is it because I am an excitable person and I have passion?

“I was guilty against Northampton, they charged me and I accepted it. I paid my price.

“It is not fair, but what can I do?

“I cannot appeal, that is not because I give up but I have to sometimes accept an injustice for my club, my fans and my players.

“I am not stupid, I know what will go on if I appeal. I do not give this advantage to anybody.

“I will pay my price, we will win again and we will carry on.”

Meanwhile, Di Canio confirmed that Town are no closer to bringing in a striker on loan after a previously proposed deal failed to come to fruition.

The 43-year-old has been on the hunt for a tall, physical striker to compliment his forward line and had confirmed he had a target in mind on transfer deadline day.

“When I said yes before that we were close, we did not go through,” added Di Canio.

“So I say no now, maybe I have a surprise happen today but I don’t know.

“At the moment I don’t see a chance, but we will see.”

There is no doubt in my mind that some of the officials in this league see Paolo as an opportunity! It's their big chance to be noticed by the FA and the ref's association as the man who put Di Canio in his place. You only have to look at what everyone else gets away with to realise that Paolo's last sending off was a complete joke. I agree with Paolo though, fill the ground and with ten thousand of us shouting the boys on we can all send a message to those idiots at the FA. I'll be there tonight, will you? COYR

What I find interesting is everyone I know (town fan or not) keep telling me how they think Di Canio in league 2 is good for the game.

However the fa treat him like he is the opposite ....

Big night for the top of the table tonight with 2nd v 4th and 5th v 3rd we REALLY need a win to keep the pressure up, especially after Southend continued their away performances last night.
--
The top 6 are looking like they will pull well away from the pack now let's just hope The Gas do us a favour away to Shrewsbury..given their recent surge in form with the new manager.
==
It feels like another Cup Final and really hoping the fans flock to the game to support the Town tonight.

Cant doubt the fact that Paulo seems to be targeted by officials. The Leicester game was a great example, their manager was barely in his technical area, but the moment Paulo got out his seat the 4th official was on him like a rash.

Grove Red, you'll never have this problem again if you get your wife into football and take her with you. I did, and we both have seaon tickets and she loves it. Actually, think she loves Paulo but hey. Paulo, don't lose that passion. The game is crying out for more characters and for the FUN to return. Town fans are loving their football this year and we'll shout extra loud tonight on your behalf. COYR!!

STFC Player - it'll cost you unfortunately but that's the only way around it.

On a totally unrelated note, anyone know when the Aldershot game's going to be rearranged to - bearing in mind it was due to be played the day before the JPT final. May be another one I miss out on due to a short supply of tickets but if not it'll be the second closest away game I think I've ever been to!

A win for Town tonight would give me a wonderful warm glow that would beat any cuddle on the sofa.

Contrast that with last season, when our motto was,
"Summus semper in excretum, sed alta variat."
(We're always in the sh1t, only the depth varies.)
