SWINDON TOWN: Wray ready to get back to business

JEREMY Wray’s recent medical problems may have delayed Swindon Town’s transfer activity this summer, but the interim chairman has stressed the club will get back on track next week.

Wray has been suffering from severe leg pain since the Robins’ goalless draw at Bradford on Saturday, but is now at home recuperating as he awaits the results of tests conducted by a hospital consultant in Reading.

The County Ground supremo had intended to sit down with Town boss Paolo Di Canio towards the end of this week to discuss the Italian’s plans for reinforcing his squad, but the Advertiser understands those talks could now stretch beyond the weekend.

Despite the minor setback, Wray is confident the club will soon kick-start the revolving door at SN1 and he said he was well on the road to recovery.

“There’s lots going on at the moment and it has not been ideal this week but we’ll get a lot sorted next week,” he told the Advertiser.

“I’ve been down in hospital having tests, and they’re still not sure what’s wrong with me.

“It was really odd. It came out of nowhere. We stopped at a service station on the way back from Bradford and I couldn’t move my legs.

“Those people who have seen me play football in the past may say that that is something that was already there before.

“I think it’s some sort of virus but it has settled down now and, although I have disqualified myself from the Olympics, otherwise I am fine and feeling much better.”

Meanwhile, striker Billy Bodin has been called up to the Welsh national side as standby for the friendly against Mexico on May 27.

The 20-year-old, currently on loan at Crewe, has already represented his country at Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 level but this would be his first opportunity to grace the biggest stage in international football.

Understandably, Bodin was delighted by the news.

He told the Advertiser: “I was at the training ground at Crewe and one of the liaison officers texted me to say well done.

“I didn’t know then what it was about so I had to check on the website to make sure it was right and I was pretty shocked.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for me. It’s still only on standby so I would only get in if someone pulls out - but that’s still a great chance.

“I’m not wishing anything bad on anyone but hopefully I will get my chance to get in there and show what I can do.

“I think (Gareth) Bale, (Aaron) Ramsey and (Craig) Bellamy are all on the list and it would be great for me to learn from them.”

Bodin revealed he has still not been offered a new deal at Swindon, where his current contract expires this summer.

And the forward has yet to have contact with the powers that be back at the County Ground.

“I’ve still not been offered a contract so hopefully Jeremy or the manager sees that I’m being called to be part of the senior side and that might help my chances,” he said.

“Since I’ve been at Crewe I’ve not spoken to anyone.

“I’ve spoken to a few of the lads down there and they’ve been saying that things aren’t being sorted until two or three weeks after the season finishes.

“Hopefully that’ll be in the next week or so and I’m hoping I get a chance.”
