MIDFIELDER Lee Cox is determined to do everything he can to avoid becoming the forgotten man of the Swindon Town squad.

The former Leicester youngster made seven appearances after joining Town for £50,000 from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in March, but only two were starts.

Cox was not involved in Paolo Di Canio’s side again after the 2-0 defeat away at Crewe in March, but he is determined to force his way back into the Italian’s plans during pre-season.

“At times this season it was frustrating for me because I wanted to play a lot more than I did, because every player just wants to play games,” he said.

“I was out the side a while which was frustrating, but the manager did not say much to me about why, because it is up to me to make sure I am performing well in training.

“You have spells like that in football, but you need to not get down about it and carry on doing your job.

“I want to come back and have a good pre-season and be fit, because I want to show that I deserve to be here and that I can offer something here.

“I want to be in the starting team every week because I am a determined man, and I want to be knocking on the door and show exactly what I can do and I will do everything I can to do that..

“As a footballer you need to show everything you are capable of in every training session.”

Despite the disappointment of not being involved for much of the season, Cox is still glad he swapped the SPL for the County Ground.

“Getting the move to Swindon was great because they are a massive club, and I am really pleased that I chose to come here,” he said.

“I was able to be part of a promotion winning side which was a great experience for me, and everyone did well throughout the season to make sure we won the title.

“It was a bit hard trying to get involved in the celebrations when you have not been involved in the game when the title was won, but everyone is together here and it has been amazing.

“I can’t wait for the new season to start so we can test ourselves at a higher level.”
