SWINDON TOWN: Wray flies to Italy for summit talks
5:40am Tuesday 10th July 2012 in STFC News By Sam Morshead
JETTING OUT: Jeremy Wray
PAOLO Di Canio will sit down with Swindon Town’s hierarchy at the club’s training camp on the banks of Lake Garda today to discuss their plans for the remainder of the summer.
Interim chairman Jeremy Wray and Di Canio’s agent Phil Spencer were set to fly out and join up with the Robins at Hotel Veronello this morning and the duo will meet with Di Canio and board member Russell Backhouse, who is already in northern Italy, to talk tactics in the transfer market.
Seven players have already been acquired by Swindon since the end of last season, but Di Canio is still after Tottenham midfielder John Bostock on a long-term loan deal and he remains interested in two unnamed players who have been offered to Town by their agents over the course of the last week.
“Tomorrow we will have a meeting because Phil and the chairman will travel here and Russell is already here,” said the Robins boss.
“We will have a meeting and we will see. I don’t expect anything today (Monday), tomorrow we’ll have more news how we can proceed in terms of accelerating a bit more the process of coming. We will see tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, trialist Simone Materazzi has left the Swindon touring party after spending five days trying to earn a contract with the Robins.

Long term deal for Bostock, maybe we are going to put an offer on the table and make it a perm deal.
Season ticket now looking amazing value for money !!!!
Totally agree mate. I think that Bostock, and 2 additions of quality would be icing on the cake......

I think that is where Spencer comes in, finding clubs for those leaving, and who knows, maybe enquiries have already been made.

Seriously I agree with OTR that no more will go out as 25/26 is about right for a 50+ game 18 man squad
.
Gives the right amount of Competition without seeing too many out of contention
.
25 travelled with 1 a trialist and 1 a youth - so only 23 Pros
.
Of them 3 are kids really - Bedwell, Smith and Storey
.
So only really 20 First Teamers - so certainly room for 3 more as at present we only have a buffer of 2 out of our first teamers
.
We have seen 2 injuries in Italy alone - so that would have automatically selected the 18 which is not good - need that competitive edge
.
Also it would see too many in certain positions - ie don't need 2 CBs on the bench

Yes it would be nice to have a bit more cover, Bostock and a back-up keeper would be great, but we already have a good L1 squad on paper in my opinion.
Everyone has their favourites and to me I can already choose who I would want to be numbers 18, 19 and 20 on match day when all available, but there will be injuries and suspensions and everyone will play a part.
Just can't see C Smith and Storey getting a game with the squad we are putting together, so going out on loan may be the answer for them.

If we do get Bostock and these other two it looks like we are going to be spoilt for choice on the quality front.
As I said earlier, that season ticket is starting to look amazing value for money.

STFC's old git S/T offer is hardly a giveaway @ £340 for new customers - - matchday ticket price = £19. so 18 games x 19 = £342. which equals 5 games"free" if you buy the ST. Given I'll probably miss 5 games for various reasons inc other sporting events methinks I'll stick with the match by match route

I'll not be a ST holder for the 2nd year running, just a pay on the day when I can afford it homer, with a few away days chucked in for good measure.

Hope you are well. Come and join the South Oxon Reds anytime and hopefully we will meet up again in the season home or away.
I know what you mean. Even my Mrs started to go last season even a few away games. As for my lads both are Junior Reds and the oldest can't wait to go again and wants to go home and away with me.

So £340 into 23 = £14.78 per games a bargain i would say
i think your figure of 18 is referring to a little league a bit higher up.

So you guys have your figures wrong on the amount of home games which is 23 not 18 So £340 into 23 = £14.78 per games a bargain i would say i think your figure of 18 is referring to a little league a bit higher up.
Others have cut their cloth according to their width for mainly financial reasons and you have to accept that, particularly when a family is involved of whatever size..... and even if they did plump for the S/T option there's a large initial outlay which is probably beyond their reach. The extended payment option is a bit of a con (ala good old HP)because you have to pay well over the odds to start with.

We were in a very poor division last season...and yes i no we won it but this season will be VERY VERY HARD with a brand new team and none of use yet no how it will pan out when the season starts...
REMEMBER we all thought that we had a great team under Wilson in his second season and look what happened there..

More Town supporters here in the area of Dastardly Dave than anyone realises. I did meet "old what his name" one of our former Chairmen the other day in Witney. He was saying how much good is being done at the club these days even behind the scenes that nobody see's. Also said the corporate hospitality we give the visiting clubs is nothing short of the best.Wiz, Talk soon, but in the meantime I hope that 'er indoors is fairing well. AND your good self, of course. Will be back in OX1 from 3-6 Aug (christening), if there's a chance I'll buy you a beer.
Another subtle one Mondeaux and to answer your previous post -certainly think Mustard's post had a note of subtlety about it :)
Oh and Wiz - know what you mean about those little pesky slugs - pellets & salt to the fore!!

We were in a very poor division last season...and yes i no we won it but this season will be VERY VERY HARD with a brand new team and none of use yet no how it will pan out when the season starts... REMEMBER we all thought that we had a great team under Wilson in his second season and look what happened there.. Even if we were to make the play-offs that to me would be a fantastic seasonWilesy wrote: The big difference this year is many more of the squad of 20 are quality (assuming the new arrivals will be successes, I suspect they will). Last year we had so many unknown players new to the country or untried at L2 level. Just can't see C Smith and Storey getting a game with the squad we are putting together, so going out on loan may be the answer for them.Hi Wilesy, If we do get Bostock and these other two it looks like we are going to be spoilt for choice on the quality front. As I said earlier, that season ticket is starting to look amazing value for money. Socks still on stand by.

nlorenzo wrote: Great to see large groups of Swindon fans in Oxfordshire. Do Poxford have a north wiltshire group of fans?? lol. As for them saying Witney and Abingdon is their territory, they are clearly deluded.Lots of 70's Swindon Supporters in Didcot and surrounding area. Even the next generation of kids are coming through following the Town. We all sit back of the DR stand. We get in around 3 corporate games a season as a jolly boys outing and could always exceed the 12 places we book. I am living North of Banbury and pick up a car full from Didcot for the Sat home games, Midweek travel on my own. Amazing so many outside of Swindon Supporters: Near us Didcot, Harwell, Kidlington, Abingdon, Marcham - Sadly our large flag went missing a few seasons ago "South Oxon Reds"
Fair few Oxford fans that are mainly from the Pension fund era but we are probably mostly Red.
I was actually born in the old JR in Oxford but living in Wantage we had no affinity to Oxford as we only became Oxon after the boundary changes in the early 70's. Us older ones are Berkshire. Perhaps I should change my name to Berks-Red or the probably more apt, Red-Berk :-)
