SWINDON TOWN: No place like home for Bessone

IN THE wake of Swindon Town manager Paolo Di Canio suggesting that it is better for the Robins to be playing away from home at present, full-back Federico Bessone has insisted that he and his teammates have no fear of running out at the County Ground.

Three victories in a row away from SN1 in recent weeks, at Portsmouth, Shrewsbury and Bury, have contrasted with a run of two league defeats in three on familiar soil, leading Di Canio to intimate that his players are more comfortable on the road.

However, Bessone stressed that the Town team is keen to make amends for their inconsistency in front of the Swindon crowd, and on a personal level he is desperate to enjoy his first taste of victory at the County Ground.

“I think it’s not easy but the teams come here and they look for more confidence. We played against Colchester and we saw them quite confident and easy with the ball,” he said.

“Also the ground is very nice but we don’t have any fear to play at home.

“We are very happy because we have a very good crowd and the supporters here are magnificent for us even if we didn’t win.

“We are not afraid of it at all.

“We need to keep looking forward. We won on Saturday and we have all of the week to prepare for the game. We have to be focused and we have to do the best we can and get our result.

“The only thing that I would like to do is win at home. I’ve played two games at home and we’ve lost so I would like to win at home and perform a little bit better than the last two games I played at home.”

After making the switch from Swansea at the end of August, Bessone has been used as a utility player by Di Canio, featuring in three different positions over the course of his six appearances to date.

But he said he has settled into the Swindon family without a hitch.

“I’m very happy,” he said. “I’m playing, and I was looking for that, the team is playing good. We lost against Colchester at home back we are winning games and that’s the main thing in football.

“We’re top four so I’m quite happy.

“We need to do a lot of work, keep going as we’re going and keep pushing ourselves.”
