You're Bark-ing mad if you think we're scared of the big boys

Swindon Advertiser: George Barker George Barker

SWINDON Town should benefit from a series of home matches against League One’s top sides, as they target a late run at the play-offs.

That is the opinion of Robins striker George Barker, who insisted that he and his teammates are not daunted by the prospect of facing four of the top six teams at the County Ground in their remaining seven home matches.

Wolves, Preston North End, Brentford and Rotherham United are all due to visit Wiltshire before the season’s end, while Sheffield United, MK Dons and Bradford City - all of whom occupy top-half spots at present - are also scheduled to play in SN1.

Given Town are five points off the play-offs with 12 games remaining, it would be understandable if the Robins players were a little intimidated by such a heavyweight fixture list, but Barker said that is far from the case.

“I think it’s only going to benefit us that we’re going to go up against the best in the league and we want to be around the best in the league,” he told the Advertiser.

“If we’re beating the top teams then there’s no reason why we can’t go on and have a strong end to the season.

“We need to go on a little run now.

“That’s been said since I’ve been here - the gaffer’s been saying we need to go on a little run and we haven’t really done that.

“We win one then we draw one, we win one then we lose one - if we get two under the belt we can go on a little run and win a few more games.

“Confidence is a massive part of football and winning is most important.“
