Jay is keen to focus on the job in hand
THE lack of contract discussions at Swindon Town at present is not distracting Jay McEveley, who is concentrating on producing as positive finish to the season on the pitch as possible.
McEveley is one of 17 players out of contract this summer and negotiations on any potential extension to his stay at the County Ground have yet to get underway.
However, the full-back stressed that his mind is fully focused on the task facing Swindon over the final nine matches of their League One campaign, starting with the visit of Preston North End this afternoon.
“I’m just concentrating on playing, really,” he told the Advertiser. “There have been no discussions with anyone. I’m not overly worried; I’m not going to go knocking on doors. It’s up to the club. I’m just concentrating on trying to put performances in, helping the team and hopefully I’ve done enough this season to prove that they want to keep me.
“It’s up to them in the end. There are quite a few people out of contract. I don’t know when people will start getting told but we’ve just got concentrate on these games and make sure we finish the season strongly.
“The way the club is going – the management staff and the squad they’re trying to put together – it’s a good project and I think if you do stick around here you’ll see some good times at Swindon over the next couple of years.
“Whether I’m part of that who knows, that’s up to them and it’s up to myself as well. I’ve just had a new baby and it’s a big change. It would have to be right for me and right for the baby but I’m very happy here at the minute. I’m enjoying my football and working with the coaching staff and I enjoy the fans as well. I do get on with them quite well.”
