PREDICTIONS LEAGUE: Sheffield United Results

And the bandwagon rolls on for another week.

What a change on fortune. Eight games without a win and then it’s four games without a defeat. And another good performance.

Miles Storey fires the Town into the lead in the first half only to be pegged back on the hour. For the second game in a row, the Town manage to dig deep and produce a winner. The late show was provided by Louis Thompson, who, in the 90th minute was able to stick the ball in the net to register his first goal for Swindon. Nathan was up off the bench and sprinted half the length of the pitch to congratulate and celebrate with his brother, reminiscent of Paolo’s dash from the dugout to celebrate with MacCormack at Northampton, only Nathan managed not to get a red card.

Just Brilliant.

PREDICTIONS LEAGUE: FA Cup 6th Round Replay

Before we get going with the details of the Sheffield Utd match, we have a small matter of the the replay between Guyswonga and Badger58. After the first, high scoring meeting between to these heavy hitters ended 12 – 12, could Guyswonga with his “LoadsaMoney” attitude get one over his opponent, or would Badger set him firmly in his place?

Here we go.
Can Badger58 make home advantage count as he bids for a semi-final place and the dream of the Domestic Double?

There’s a good turnout for this one. Despite the actions of many agriculturist and government agencies, many of the cubs have made it to the stadium, set idyllically in the rural surroundings of Wild Wood. We even have some VIP guests here. Sitting in the directors’ box is Brian May, who by all accounts has helped to smuggle in most of the home fans by hiding them in his curly locks. Alongside Brian is the aristocratic Toad and his good friend Ratty.

Right from the first whistle, guyswonga comes out all guns blazing and takes the fight straight to Badger. Badger is shell shocked and doesn’t know which way to run before he could even finish tying his boot laces; Guyswonga takes a commanding 2-7 lead. Badger has to regroup. He has to rethink, stay calm. He’s had things all his own way for so long. Regaining his composure, Badger manages to get one back, only for guyswonga to reply quickly to keep the lead to 5. That lead is extended further still just be for the interval with a brace, one low into the bottom left corner, the other high to the top right corner.

Second Half

The second half gets under way and its more of the same, Badger starts to make a fight of it and is soon rewarded with 3 more goals to make it 6-10. But Badger is somewhat star gazing. He goes autograph hunting and while Brian May is signing the match day programme, Guyswonga sticks 5 more into the hole. 6-15.

Badger, not to be out done makes a valiant fight-back and manages to bang in tow more goals followed very quickly by two more. That’s more like it. 10-15.

Then Badger comes up with a plan. With the help of Toad and Ratty, they manage to get the team’s river boat up turned and wedged in between the posts. It was to no avail. Guyswonga made a triple substitution bringing on Chief Weasel, Stoats and Ferret. Their impact was fatal. They each found the net, through the small gaps left by the timber craft and goal frame.

The final whistle pierced the air and the three subs hoisted guyswonga onto their shoulders. Guyswonga calls out to Badger as he disappears down the tunnel…

“ You shoulda used a bigger boat “

LEAGUE TABLES

Despite his defeat in the FA Cup, Badger58 extends his lead at the top of the Premiership. He is in the box seat and it is his title to lose. Rebel phish reels in NewburyNick and moves into 2nd place. Old-Stager has slipped to 7th with a few out of character performances.

Helpme234 hangs on to Premiership status but slips to 20th and dazinblack heads the Championship

One update from the PNE game, I missed 2pts for Glosteroldboy, these have been added to the tables below.

The tables are up to date with Sheffield points, the March bonus points and Badger58’s 6pts for being an FA Cup R6 loser.

My apologies Helpme, it was totally unintentional. It does prove that people do look with keen interest as to how they are fairing.

In my defense, it was getting very late - look at the time stamp on the postings - and I used the PNE Hall of frame as my staring point and NOT the Tranmere one.

So, here is the correct Man of the Match Hall of Fame table as it should have been posted last night.

Cheers Rebel, superb effort. Newbury Mike is on a roll but in the 'cup' anything can happen and he is looking over his shoulder at me in the league so roll on the cup game where I have all my injured players back and I look for a final place.

Game on !
