LUKE Williams wants Swindon Town’s two Samsung Win A Pro finalists to show they can conduct themselves like professionals when they train with the League One club this week.

After a record 5,700 youngsters entered the latest edition of the competition and were cut down to 22 finalists, the final six players have now been selected to train with Town.

Midfielder Josue Antonio, 17, of Merton and right-back Oliver Noel, 19, of Hampstead, were selected by Swindon manager Mark Cooper following the final on March 2 and meet up with the Robins’ first-team squad this week for three days of assessment.

Assistant coach Williams told the Advertiser what he and Cooper will be looking for from the pair, saying: “The only thing that should be a given is that they will be committed and work hard and act as a profesisonal footballer. Kayden Jackson has done that for us this year. Whether or not they’ve got the right set of skills and ability level has yet to be seen but the one thing we ask for is they work hard and conduct themselves as a pro.

“Sometimes you’ll see something that jumps off the page, other times you won’t and then we’ll try to talk to people who know the players - from the previous clubs and so on - to find out if there’s something we think we can work with.”

Though the Samsung competition has been running for three years, winners Jordan Pavett, Chris Smith and Kayden Jackson have mustered just a solitary first-team appearance between them.

Williams stressed that Jackson has impressed the coaching staff at Town this term and that a late-season place in a matchday squad might not be out of the question.

He said: “I think there’s always a chance for every player. We’ve seen so many players this season who have spent a long time out and they’ve come in and player 90 minutes week in, week out. Everyone has always got a chance to play and Kayden has not done himself any harm.

“He’s gone out and scored goals so there’s always a chance.”
