MASSIMO Luongo believes next year’s Asian Cup could provide him with a good opportunity to further his international career after his World Cup ended yesterday without him seeing any action.

The Swindon Town midfielder was once again an unused substitute as his side lost 3-0 to Spain in their final group game yesterday, meaning the Socceroos go home from Brazil with no points to their name despite putting in three good displays.

However, the Aussies host the Asian Cup in January next year and, after picking up vital experience in Brazil, Luongo believes the tournament is one he can be hopeful of being involved in.

“The Asian Cup is probably a more realistic one for me to look forward to,” he said.

“If I get called up the focus will turn to that at the time but if I’m going to get called up it’s going to be because I’m doing well for Swindon.

“When I get back I will focus on playing week in and week out for Swindon and then if I can get called up that would be great.”

If selected, Luongo would miss almost a month of football for Town as the tournament begins on January 9 and ends on January 31.
