Lee Power has written an open letter to Swindon Town fans

LEE Power has written an open letter to Swindon Town supporters, apologising for the trials and tribulations the club has faced over the past few months.

The letter reads:

"I firstly would like to apologise to every Swindon Town supporter.

This whole case has been a very unwelcome and unneeded situation that has unfortunately dragged the name of our club through the mud. I would also like to apologise about the lack of information you have been given over the last few months regarding what has been going on, it must have been very frustrating for all of you but please believe me when I say that I cannot tell you how frustrating and hard it has been for me too, not to be able to come out and tell you all what is going on and to be able to show these people for what they are. I still can't really do that because of my ongoing claim against Mr McCrory and Mr Murrell, but I thought the judge summed it up well in six words when he said "Mr McCrory you are a liar". The only thing I am annoyed and embarrassed about is that I didn't see this bunch of deceitful opportunists for what they were straight away and because of my involvement with them, at times I felt I was being tarred with the same brush which I found so frustrating. Enough about them.

Leaving aside from this current saga, I would like to say to you all how much I have really enjoyed being Chairman of your club so far. I always felt I could help bring success to the club with my contacts, football knowledge and my knowledge of business but one thing I didn't realise was how much I would enjoy it, how much I still love football and how much I had missed the buzz of a match day and that feeling when we win a game. You can't replicate those emotions in any other industry no matter how successful you are.

I have always said I wanted to make the club self sustainable as quickly as possible. We would be nearly there, if the income was similar to last season, but at this point, it isn't. We have hardly sold a season ticket over the last 2 months, hardly sold any hospitality and have had plenty of sponsors pulling out saying they won't renew until this case is resolved, but that has now happened. I need your help, I am not the richest man in the world, far from it. As was stated in court it has cost me personally well in excess of 2 million pounds in the last 12 months but I cannot keep funding the club at anywhere near that rate. So, in order for us to have a competitive budget - which I have allowed £1.8 million for this season - we need the income to remain at the levels it has been or the budget will have come down accordingly. I don't apologise for this because I believe a club should be self sustainable for the long-term good of the club.

Everything I have said I would do to this point, I feel I have done. I always said trust is earned and one season is not long enough to earn that trust but, to this point, I think I have delivered on everything I promised. I said I would fund the club in the short term, I have. I said I would get the wage bill to a sustainable level while remaining competitive, I have. I said I would reduce the age of the squad and give young players with big potential a platform to shine, I have.

Now to the most important thing: our team. I thought we performed very well overall last season, I was delighted with the players and the management team and thought, considering the amount of new players, the big change in playing philosophy and the inexperience of the side, we did an excellent job. This season I am excited because a lot of the team have now had a full season of league football behind them and I think this season we will a see big improvement in lots of them. We haven't been very active in the transfer market, unlike last season when it was like a revolving door with ins and outs. We don't feel we need many additions. We expect 3 or 4 signings before the start of the season, we know who our targets are and we expect to get them.

Finally, I want to ask for your continued support. Like I said earlier, I need your help. It is your football club and we need to unite together to make this club successful. I am just a custodian looking after your club at this moment in time. No Chairman, no manager or player stays around forever but the fans and the people of the town do. But I am sure whether I am here 10 years, 15 years or however long, that when I leave Swindon Town Football Club it will be in a better position than when I arrived but only with your support.

Let’s have a great season together.

Lee."

Words are cheap Mr Power. Actions speak louder. We need to get rid of the second rate youth players like Storey and the Thompsons and bring in some experienced professionals. If it means getting your wallet out then do it, that's what a chairman is for.

I for one won't be attending a single game until I feel the team is being properly invested in. Radio Wiltshire for me this season then...

I hope fans can now see that LP means well for our club and and as he has stated get behind him and the club to help us move forward.
Jed has done everything he can to destroy this club and i hope LP absolutely takes him to the cleaners.
I'm sure we have some exciting young players coming in this season and i for one am fully behind LP and what he wants to achieve for our club but as he says he needs us as well to support the club.
Good on you LP so lets all get behind him and renew those season tickets and hope fully now we can get more sponsorship and hopefully some other investment.
Reading details on the court case Jed filled us right up with a load of bull particualarly about the transfer embargo going back to 1950 or whatever it was which was a total fabrication as the real reason he didnt have a cent to his name and filled us with c*** and blamed everyone else for the problem.
We have a good a chance as anyone doing well in this league the favourites no doubt will be Sheff Utd, Preston, Bristol City as they have all been recruiting but we will be there or thereabouts which the right additions to the squad and all the reason to be optimistic.

Fantastically honest words from Mr Power- telling it like it is -so we are in no doubt regarding the finances. I would like to help but cannot justify a season ticket as the 200 mile round trip and occasional other commitments mean we would only be able to attend half the games. So please, please offer packakges of tickets that can be bought up front ( say 10 home games of your choice) this would help get money in the coffers.

Second rate? The Thompsons? You're either a wind up merchant or unrealistic about the level of football we play at. Louis I found especially to have come on leaps and bounds this season, and Nathan, whilst impetuous at times and picks up the odd card, is a very decent right back for a league one club. Storey's not really featured a huge amount but we've seen glimpses of what he can do when playing with a target man. Portsmouth clearly think he's a player with promise, and although playing at League 2 level are still a big club.

Think as Mr Power can only do so much, however what must be appreciated is costs to Fans these days for a dad to take his son to a match aint cheap anymore.
Just maybe he should offer a decent Family package and something for fans who let´s say attending a game just aint in his weekly budget.
The open letter I felt was spot on and yes he needs help.I would think ll Fans who can afford to attend games will carry on now that let´s say LP starts with a clean slate.
Again as he said he cannot do this on his own so the time is now for STFC Fans to support there club

What more can a man say at this time! We can only give him the support that he asks for.

There is never a good time for this uncertainty, but pre-season is the worst. All is not lost as apparently our 3/4 targets are still available, so fingers crossed that the squad takes shape now. The situation down the 420 is more alarming (to them) so: C'mon you Reds!

Can you explain to me about the chairmans role being to get their wallet out??? that is not true what so ever, yes from time to time they might as Lee Power has done invest their personal funds in the interest of the club. But their main aim is to seek further investment through other means, so they do not have to be out of pocket!!!!!
The Thompson brothers play with pride and passion for the club and have proven their are more than worthy to play in the team.

It just proves that some people will never be happy.... much rather you didnt come to the games as im sure your one of the moaners who will pick team apart after a win!!!!

No surprise then that once again you come out with a negative response to a positive announcement from the chairman. Article on the WEB at 11.58 and you're first to post at 12.12. Wow you must be drooling for news behind your keyboard. If anyone should get their wallet out it's you, not Lee Power whose put invested a considerable amount of his own money. You're probably one of those cheapskates that sneak off to the bog when it's your round.

Rather naive question from Sam's article - actually it is clear that most football club owners are NOT in it to make money. Mostly it is vanity. Power does not want to lose money - fair enough, he's not a multi-millionaire - but if he expects to make a pile we're all in for a disappointment. Unless, of course, he is looking to sell the club on once everything is on an even keel.

Let us not forget thatMr. Power could have walked away even after the positive result of the court case. He has not! He sees the Club as his baby and I guess will not pull away any time soon. He is passionate in his letter and I believe strikes exactly the right note! I will certainly be there for the Soton game and as many home games as I can manage this season. For practical reasons I cannot buy a season ticket, but if I lived closer, I woul;d for sure. Onwards and upwards Mr Power, Ms. Sanita Shah, and all Club and " real " fans!! Come on you Reds!!!

Cant quite believe what I just read.

I think Power has put himself across very well, he's a proper football man who has the best intrests in mind for the club (very much unlike McCrory).

I'm not sure who you consider second rate youth players? Although I think Storey needs a full season in the league below before we get the best out of him, the two Thompson brothers have been a breath of fresh air, we lost a championship standard right back when Caddis left, and to be honest from what I've seen so far there's very little between them.

And towards the end of last season I thought Louis Thompson was one of our best players, bundles of energy, composed on the ball and dedicated to the cause. I truely believe he will be one of our stand out players this year.

Now this is all over lets get behind the boys, get these season tickets bought, and push on so we finally rightfully return to the second tier of english football.

I truely believe he will be one of our stand out players this year. Now this is all over lets get behind the boys, get these season tickets bought, and push on so we finally rightfully return to the second tier of english football. swindont3

For once, a Chairman who tells it as it is. The past chairmen, have either not been too bothered about football altogether, or spent every last bit of money we DIDIN'T have!
We all asked for him to keep us involved, and he has! He couldn't speak about it before as it was going through court, and speaking about cases whilst ongoing is ILLEGAL!
He certainly has my vote, and if he can get more players like Pritch to boost us up the table, then that's perfect!

Ramsbury (sorry quote not working) - Power said in his interview with the BBC back in Dec that he has a 5 year plan of getting us self sufficient and holding our own in the Championship - at which point we would probably be attractive to someone to come in and take us to the next level
.
If he was to sell up at that point and make money - who could really complain?
.
As for the Column - have you read Andrew Steele's on FLIC?
.
You can see why they are in favour with the club and are getting lots of interviews!

As for the letter - I have said for a while I think Power will be the best thing to ever happened to this club and I am more convinced by this now!
.
I agree with a lot of what he is saying about the players and excited to see who our targets are and how we develop this year - for me we have a great core in Wes, N.Thompson, Byrne, Luongo and L.Thompson - if we can add a couple to replace Troy and Ranger we will be a real force!
.
The only good thing Jed and Co did was set up some meetings with the Trust and Supporters club and host the Q&A evenings - now while the answers were obviously full of sh@t - the concept was good
.
I would ask Power to keep that going as it is a great way to engage with the fans and gives an opportunity for ideas like one Eastern suggests above to be put to the Powers that be (I did suggest that to Wray before and he said it would be raised at a board meeting but never got anywhere)

A good response from Lee Power after the recent shenanigans; I think an overwhelming majority of fans will be right behind him. I shudder to think where we would be if he hadn't come in with his money and contacts; the fact that he is not a super rich multi-millionaire make his actions all the more courageous and laudable. "Cometh the hour, cometh the man."

Bottom line is, he is a businessman hoping to grow our club using a sound financial model and the nurturing of young premiership loanees and then hoping to sell a fully viable club at some time in the future for a good profit. As far as I am concerned it is a win-win situation. He is no fool and as far as I am concerned, he has shown himself through his actions in the last year to be deserving of our support. At least our club will not be a billionaires plaything dreading the impact of a fall-out or walkaway withdrawal of wads of cash like Chelsea/Man City et al.

Everyone needs to be persuading their friends, work colleagues and neighbours to get buying season tickets a.s.a.p. now that the dust is settling. I can't believe the low sales over the last 2 months - how can anyone with the club in their blood (other than financially disadvantaged fans) think about non-renewal? COYMR

Unfortunately there are the usual handful of muppets that insist on posting their negative and ill thought out comments against every story that appears on here.

They are not representative of the vast majority of Swindon fans who appreciate that you have come in and invested money in keeping our Club afloat at a time when no one else was prepared to do so.

We will now do our bit by buying season tickets, match tickets and merchandise, whilst looking forward to a productive season on the pitch.

Thanks again.

We will struggle , can't compete with the teams you are on about we will be at the other end of the table struggling to stay above the dotted line , playing tip tap pass back crap . Why believe what power says , it could well be like Jed all ****
You mean just like last season when you were saying the same things?
What did we win last season I really can't remember , oh yea I know bugger all
Along with 19 other clubs in our division, our playing budget is on par with many others in the League and with the right additions I dont see why we cannot be top 10 again this season.

Are you and the other negative jokers in the real world? You obviously do not understand the basics of how clubs work. Even after winning the first court case we are still in a precarious position. If money does not materialise we could well enter administration again. My view from this time last year is, accept who is running the club and support it or it will die.

I've said before the club should do a half-season ticket, but meaning it just has 12 credits which you redeem against match tickets.
I work a 3 on 3 off shift pattern and had to stop getting a season ticket because of this. Over the past two season, i have had to pick and choose games, and given the matchday prices, some games i missed not due to work, but financial reasons and their timing.
This season i have bitten the bullet and bought one anyway, but before christmas, i need to book 4 and a half days holiday to make use of it.
A ticket paid up front, discounted to a similar price as a full season ticket, allowing me to choose 12/13 games to go to, would be a massive reason for me to go.
More and more people are working irregular hours these days and clubs need to think of ways to accommodate them.

Top marks to Power and his words echo truth. Great that he acknowledges the supporters will always be here long after players, managers and chairmen. Great also that he should again put his cards on the table, face up. We have asked for chairmen to communicate with us and he does that. Don't forget we never heard a word from Black until he spat out his dummy.
His candid appraisal is spot on, and without that ripple in February we could have been right there in the mix. I admire the guy for his openness and his plan, and I continue in the hope that he and The Adver can patch things up further now Jedgate has been put to bed in court.
With the judge ruling that Jed has told lies under oath I hope that makes things easier for Power to claim back the alleged £300k that is missing.
I hope the S/T sales do pick up now and several that I have spoken with over the last couple of days are seriously reconsidering their stance as they were cautious about Jed getting their money before.

Fair play to LP for taking the gamble and I sincerely hope it works out for him as a person and chairman and us as supporters of our beloved club.

While Power may have good intentions, his track record with other clubs is awful. Why buy into a League One club if you do not have the resources - go buy Hereford or similar which is where you should be. The sad reality i that the Smiths and Gladwins and others are non league standard and that is why a large number of fans are not buying into the coming season.

We had the fifth largest gates in the division last season (c.8,500) so why does our budget have to be smaller than, say, Crawley (c.2,200). The club needs new investors/ownership otherwise non-league here we come.

Of course it needs new investment - but nobody else has come forward have they??? We don't exactly have a queue of potential investors lining up at the door - so we have to cut our cloth accordingly.

It makes me laugh when 'supporters' of this Club are not even prepared to stump up the price of admission, yet they sit back and expect investors with money but no lifelong interest in Swindon Town to splash their hard earned cash with no likelihood of a return!

Get real, the Club needs funding through the turnstiles which will lead to a better atmosphere, better players, better level of football etc etc.

Metaphorically folding your arms, staying at home listening to a radio commentary and waiting for someone else to do something is a self fulfilling prophecy.

We all need to get behind Lee Power.
As Sam Moorshead wrote elsewhere: “In 2014/15, Swindon and its supporters need each other more than ever.” Lee can’t put lots of money into the club that he has not got and why should he if it is to be pouring money down the drain? Sustainability is the only way forward without a new money-bags owner riding in to save the day. There are not those owners out there who can just throw the money about to save or sustain our club, so we have to work with what we have got and accept that the playing squad may be cut price outfit this season and maybe next.
The league table is not based on how much cash you put in, it’s based on results. With Cooper and Power running the show, we can hopefully out-perform the resources that we have available to us. That has to be our aim as a club from now on.

Bad example, Crawley have been blowing more than they had for years now, especially under he who shall not be named. Saying our club needs new investors is somewhat stating the obvious, and Power's said that new investors are needed himself, so not sure what point is being made here.

In some ways you've answered your own question, average gate over the course of the year at around 8500 - a club only getting that many through the door is going to struggle for promotion in league 1 without more being invested, or by having the playing staff emloyed on a shoestring. We're somewhere between the two - Power's had to invest, and we've had a lot of loan signings assist us on the way. Still managed last season to finish not too far behind Peterborough, who'd signed Britt Assombalonga at the start of last season for £1,500,000 - far in excess of anything we could afford.

All things considered, I'd say Power's not made a bad stab at it so far.

The club needs new investors/ownership otherwise non-league here we come.[/p][/quote]Bad example, Crawley have been blowing more than they had for years now, especially under he who shall not be named. Also £15 for a kick about your having a laugh, I would rather pay that for the jpt than a Sunday morning stroll. At least it's competitive.
Onwards and upwards
Are you and the other negative jokers in the real world? You obviously do not understand the basics of how clubs work. Even after winning the first court case we are still in a precarious position. If money does not materialise we could well enter administration again. My view from this time last year is, accept who is running the club and support it or it will die.
The basics are you get a rich chairman I.e black get a great manager I.e di canio spend on players get promoted
SIMPLES.
Grim, PDC is a great coach but couldn't manage a pi55 up in a brewery.
He's not even a great coach Den/Grim, totally failed at Sunderland and Gus showed him how to manage/coach, he only succeeded here because of Blacks dosh and Wrays indulgence with Blacks money simples Grim!!!!!!!!!!!
Got to disagree Don. A number of our players said he was a great coach but a sh1te man manager. I think there was plenty of evidence to back that up. The combination of his coaching skill and the resources provided by Black and co should have taken us a long way. Sadly his ego dominated everything and eventually also ruined everything. I'm convinced he has a lot to offer the game. He just needs to take a step back and understand that it's not all about him.

Now this is something i said for awhile now, i have a season ticket and have only missed one game at home in 4 years now but the Tuesday night games are tough for me as i have to get up at 04:30 but i do it and no doubt would even if they gave options.
I was thinking along the lines of maybe a Saturday season ticket and a midweek season ticket, midweek less games but i think you would be surprised how many of the local Saturday footballers would take this up.
The 13 game season ticket is a good idea also but obviously you might not have the same seat all the time with this one.

What about a package that most supermarkets do, 26 for £x, 13 for £y and 6 for £z. Not only does that give people more choice on the amount of commitment they have to give, it also allows more flexibility when people want to sit with their friends who come to occasional games ( at home, like me who have season ticket friends).
