CHARLTON Athletic have revealed that they received notice from Swindon Town cancelling a pre-season friendly yesterday lunchtime.

The Championship club say they agreed last month to face Town on Wednesday, July 30, shortly before they published details of the match on their official website.

However, Swindon never confirmed or announced the game and yesterday the Robins released their pre-season fixture list, which features a meeting with Leeds United on Tuesday, July 29 instead of the Charlton match.

A statement from Charlton this afternoon read: "Charlton are looking for replacement opponents for Wednesday, July 30th following the sudden cancellation of a planned friendly at Swindon Town.

"The two clubs had agreed on the pre-season encounter shortly before it was officially confirmed on www.cafc.co.uk on Monday, June 23rd.

"However, around lunchtime on Monday, July 7th the club received a notice from Swindon that they would no longer be able to fulfil the fixture.

"Later that afternoon the Robins announced a replacement friendly at home to Leeds United on Tuesday, July 29th.

"Charlton would like to apologise to any supporters who had already made plans to travel to the County Ground for the game and have been inconvenienced by the late cancellation.

"The club will announce at the earliest opportunity on www.cafc.co.uk if and when a replacement opponent is found."
