PETERBOROUGH United are tracking the availability of Swindon Town right-back Nathan Thompson, the Advertiser understands.
Thompson, who skippered the Robins towards the end of last season, made 44 appearances for Town in 2013/14. No formal approach or offer is believed to have been made for the Swindon academy product.
Posh manager Darren Ferguson declined to comment on suggestions he is monitoring the 23-year-old at a press conference today.
"Look I'm not going to talk about players who are contracted at other clubs," said Ferguson.
"We have a list of players we are interested in, we shorten that list, we then try and do the deal. We will let you know when we have completed a signing.
"It's not fair on the clubs or the player to talk about contracted footballers."
Posh are on the look-out for a right back after Mark Little joined Bristol City and Craig Alcock rejected a new contract offer with the London Road club. Posh have Manchester City's Adam Drury training with them with a view to a loan move.
