MARK Cooper is convinced that Swindon Town’s fans will come out and back their club in force, once they’ve been shown that progress is being made in building the Robins’ squad.

Season-ticket sales have been significantly down this summer owing to the High Court hearings regarding the ownership of the club and the subsequent struggle to get new signings tied down early in the transfer window.

However, Cooper believes the supporters will quickly throw their voices behind him and his players when his main targets are officially unveiled at the County Ground.

“Obviously I can understand they want to see progress in terms of the squad and things like that,” he said. “It’s a catch 22 but if we can get those players in over the next couple of days then they’ll support us as they always do.”

Discussions continue regarding the potential signings of the Southampton pair of Jack Stephens and Jordan Turnbull, as well as Liverpool’s Brad Smith, with Cooper saying: “In terms of the players we’re going to use, it’s a pretty small group. Hence the reason we need to add to it quickly. We’ve got a small, tight-knit group and if we can add three players to it that would be great.

“Lee (Power) is very well connected in the game and we’ll sit down and discuss targets and he’ll try to get them over the line. That’s the way it works.”
