Highworth-based Paul Tapner had a great preparatory run for the forthcoming Mitsubishi Motors Badminton three-day event, when the Australian international was in action in Lincolnshire.
The 32-year-old came home with the top prize on offer at the Belton Park International Horse Trials, staged near Grantham, seeing off top British riders like Mary King in the process. His win came in the international one day event Grantham Cup on his Badminton ride and hot Olympic prospect Inonothing, who he owns jointly with Jenny Waaler.
"This was a very good result although Inonothing's dressage performance was not good compared to what he is capable of," said Paul, who was 13th at Badminton last year on the 12-year-old gelding and is hoping for at least a top-10 finish this time.

Marlborough based New Zealander Andrew Nicholson, another rider heading to Badminton, made the line up several times at Belton.
He took three horses into the top three in the strongly contested Advanced sections - his up-and-coming rides Nereo and Epic both earned seconds and his one of his three current Badminton entries, Armada, was third.
