Forty five youngsters took part in Bowmoor Sailing Club’s Optimist Open Day on October 29 2011. There were 25 boats in the main fleet and 20 boats in the regatta fleet. The open followed winter training with boats coming from as far away as Falmouth. There was some highly competitive racing. The first race in the main fleet saw Martin Wrigley take the lead chased by Iain Bird finishing half a boat length behind, with Rosie Williamson in third place. In the second race Martin broke clear of the pack to win by some margin. Second went to Alaric Bates, third going to Iain. After lunch the third race Martin was first, second went to Alaric with Ryan Bush in third place and in the ast race Huw Nunn took the lead for two laps. Then a tacking duel on the second lap with Martin allowed Rosie to take the lead until the final mark rounding when Martin gained an overlap on Rosie to squeeze though as the S flag was raised. The final result was, Martin first, Rosie second and Huw Nunn third. The overall positions were; 1st Martin Wrigley CBYC, 2nd Alaric Bates Bowmoor SC/CBYC, 3rd Rosie Williamson Bowmoor SC, 4th Huw Nunn Bowmoor SC/CBYC.

In the regatta fleet first race Charles Handley came first, second went to Lucie Cotterill and third place to Edward Conlan. In the second race first and second were Charles and Lucie with Bettine Harris in third place. In the third race Charles was first, second was Ben Wood and third was Sophia Baker and in the final race first Charles completed a clean sweep, second Lucie and third Sophia Baker. The final result: 1st Charles Handley Papercourt SC/RSRNYC, 2nd Lucie Cotterill Bowmoor SC, 3rd Edward Conlan Bowmoor SC, 4th Ben Wood Bowmoor SC.
