Apple Distinguished Educator, David Baugh, will be at New College Swindon next week to launch a new mobile learning initiative.

The college, along with three others in the area, has been awarded £250,000 by the Learning Skills Council to develop a range of podcasts to enhance students' learning and David will be on hand to demonstrate the different ways in which a podcast can be created.

David was awarded the Distinguished Educator status for his exemplary use of IT in 2000 and is known for his writing on digital media in the classroom for Guardian Education and other publications.

David has also devised a number of tools to help improve the understanding and delivery of digital media.

Graham Taylor, New College Principal, said: "This is an exciting time for the College. We launched virtual learning at the start of this year and we've had a great response to it.

"We've been looking for ways to develop the site and podcasting seemed like the obvious next step so we're delighted that David is able to attend the official launch and help us through the early stages of the project."

The podcasts will be created by both staff and students and will feature a variety of audio and video material. A proportion of the funding will be spent on purchasing 1,000 iPods to be distributed between the four partner colleges; New College, Swindon College, Cirencester College and Wiltshire College, to ensure that all students in the relevant curriculum areas have access to the podcasts.
