GUIDE TO UPLOADING
Log on to our admin site: http://admin.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/admin5/
Enter your user name and password (which will have been sent via email to you).
You will see our site map and if you scroll down to Your Neighbourhood, you will see next to Latest News and Photo Gallery the letter U.
Click on the U next to Latest news to upload a news story, information about upcoming events, an opinion piece – whatever you wish to put on there.
Similarly, if you have a photo you would like to add to the Photo Gallery, click U next that section.
UPLOADING A STORY TO THE LATEST NEWS SECTION
The minimum you need to do on this page is insert headline and story.
Author: if you leave this as ‘unknown’, no byline will appear on the story. If you wish your name to appear on the story, scroll down to select it.
Date up & Posted date: alter these if you wish to delay a story to go up on the site later. Make sure you change both Date up and Posted date to the same date and time.
Date down: if you want your story to remain on the site for only a short period of time, please fill in this section. If you don’t, it will disappear from the site and into the archive after 180 days.
Rating: leave this blank.
Allow comments: if you tick this box, it allows other readers to add comments to the story. See legal guidance.
Images: upload one or more images by browsing for the picture on your computer and entering a caption. See more on images later.
Related links: enter full website address/name of link and this will become a live link.
When you have completed all required fields, click Next.
You will then see a preview and if you are happy with the story, scroll down and select which thumbnail you want to appear next to the story (you will only have this option if you have picked a picture to go with it). If you are happy, click Send Live.
If you wish to make any changes, click Back on your browser, make your changes and click Next again, followed by Send Live.
UPLOADING PICTURES TO THE PICTURE GALLERY
Click U next to the Picture Gallery.
Browse for your picture on your computer. Write a headline (usually just saying what the picture is of).
In the Description box, put more details about the picture and who took it.
Make sure the Resize box is ticked.
If you have difficulty getting your image to load, it may be that it is too big – use a site like photobucket.com to resize it to a maximum of 450 pixels wide.
ADDING IMAGES TO STORIES
Just click Browse on the Upload story page and find your image on your computer. Once the story has been uploaded, you can delete your picture from your computer if you wish.
Images must be no bigger than 200 pixels wide if portrait and no bigger than 400 pixels wide if landscape.
You can easily tell if your image is too big – it will just struggle for ages trying to load the preview page when you click Next.
Simply resize your image if you have the relevant software. If not, use a site such as photobucket.com which will let you resize your image.
FURTHER INFO – HTML
You don’t need to use HTML within your stories at all if you don’t want to – but if you want to experiment, here are some basic bits and pieces.
PLEASE NOTE: Replace () brackets with <> brackets
(li) bullet point
(br) starts a new line
(br)(br) starts a new line with a gap between paragraphs
(b)text goes here(/b) bolds all text between
