Battle of bands at Walkabout
Five bands from all over the south west including Swindon battled it out in the Jack Daniels Sound Check Battle of the Bands national competition at the Walkabout bar this week.
The regional final was won by the five-piece band Wishbone who travelled all the way from Newquay to take part.
The Swindon entry was Parallel Error a bunch of musicians who got together to enter the competition just for fun.
The regional final was only their second gig as a band so they did incredibly well to get as far as they did in the competition.
Paul Galvin is the deputy manager of the Fleet Street bar.
He was amazed by the standard of musicians who entered the contest and delighted by the success of the event.
"It was such a close run thing. All the bands on the night were absolutely great,'' he said when he announced the winner.
Paul is keen to promote local musicians at the Walkabout and help put Swindon on the musical map nationwide.
He said: "Walkabout has put together this event to help promote local talent and to give local bands a chance to play a venue that ha been built for live music and uses all the latest equipment.''
The other bands competing in the regional finals were My Darkest Day from Plymouth, Boys With Xray Eyes from Newport and Sunshine Getaway from Exeter.
Wishbone, who play a number of different instruments including banjo, bongos and slide guitar, write and sing their own songs.
The band now go on to compete in the grand final held at the Walkabout Temple in London on Thursday May 1.
The national Walkabout bar chain and Jack Daniels Bourbon giants frequently team up to promote live music events.
Paul said: "The competition is inspired by the rich musical heritage of Jack Daniels, so the Soundcheck is sure to become known as the battle that all local bands want to win.''
