Jake Gyllenhaal would be the perfect catch if it wasn't for his ropey looks, according to Natalie Portman.

The pair star alongside Tobey Maguire in new war drama Brothers.

And despite praising his qualities, Jake's chiselled looks just don't cut it for the 28-year-old actress.

The pair play the wife and brother of a soldier who embark on an affair after the fighter goes missing in Afghanistan.

But despite playing on-screen lovers, Natalie joked that Jake isn't all that in the looks department.

She told the The New York Post: "He plays guitar and has a great voice. Kids and dogs love him. He loves his mom and sister and girlfriend."

"He's perfect... too bad he's ugly."
