Pals are loud and proud about label
Stuart Gourley and Gary Boast

TWO friends from Swindon have set up their own independent record label to promote local bands.

Twenty-two-year-olds Stuart Gourley and Gary Boast joined forces in March to form Uber Loud Records, aiming to bring together the best of the Swindon music talent with CDs, podcasts and gigs.

"I was getting fed up that there was nobody promoting some of the great bands we have in Swindon," said passionate music lover Stuart, from Liden.

"There's so much undiscovered talent here and with so much rubbish in the charts it just really annoyed me.

"There isn't anyone to push them upwards and onwards so that's where the idea originated from.

"When Gary, who is more technically minded than me, came on board we really got into the podcasts.

"We wanted to take the Swindon music scene to another level and get it on the map."

The pair see this as a hobby although as it takes off they see it as becoming a good business venture. For now they are investing the money they make back into Uber Loud Records.

They are mainly looking out for indie, rock and alternative bands but would like to hear from all acts of all styles.

They are hoping to start promoting and signing bands in the very near future.

Gary, of Eldene, is a studio manager for the BBC in London.

He said: "The idea is to promote and encourage local bands and talent, through giving them gigs.

"We hope to be able to work with New College because there is a studio there.

"The idea is for a compilation CD to showcase the bands and introduce them to an audience. I imagine we'll be working predominantly with the younger bands."

Their CD compilation features six Swindon bands - Rag Doll Girl, The Alfonz, Darker Daylight, Josh Kum Ka, The Purple Streams and Satellite Seventeen - and five interviews.

"It is priced at £6 and can be purchased through the website or at gigs.

The Advertiser's website, www.adver.co.uk, will be podcasting the tracks today.

The pair have arranged a gig at 12Bar, in Westcott Place, on Friday, October 12, at 8pm, headlined by The Dirty Feel with support from The Sections and Underside. Entrance is £4.

The next music fest will be Riffs bar, in Hook, on November 30 and will be followed by one at the Vic, in Old Town, on January 4.

When will you guys ever get the dates right for things?

I am the manager of the 12 bar, and this gig was not tonight...it is TOMORROW night!(friday)

You guys at the adver do this all the time...we are always getting people turn up on the wrong nights looking for a gig, because you have advertised it wrong...please sort this out!!!

There's already another label here in Wiltshire working towards the same objectives but not only locally, by the way.
One is managed by XTC former members (the real pride of Swindon I think), Ape music and another I.A.P. UK that produces literature and arts as well as music.
It's nice to see that there are people like those guys too, encourage new artists to produce new music and not to perform the same old covers again and again.
;)
Well done!
