CARDWAVE founder and CEO Paul Norbury has been crowned Business Person of the Year at this year’s Wiltshire Business Awards.

The company, which is based in Hopton Park Industrial Estate in Devizes, was founded by Mr Norbury in 2004 and since then, he has established Cardwave as one of the market leaders in the country in providing a data programming service for OEM customers and memory card manufacturers.

Since inception, the company has achieved consistent growth and been instrumental in the delivery of many high-profile projects for leading consumer, automotive, navigation and telecommunication companies.

Mr Norbury said: “There was a lot of immense talent in the room and it’s an absolute privilege to win.

“I am delighted, gobsmacked and shaking like a leaf. It’s very humbling to be recognised in front of so many successful businesses. As an individual you can have a vision and you can put the effort in, but it’s all about the team, with so many people contributing to the success.

“So I want to say a huge thank you to my dedicated staff, who have all worked incredibly hard over the past year, and to my wife, who allows me to do the things I need to do to grow the company.

“We work with large customers all over the world and have an office in North America. We work incredibly hard to look after customers.”

Mr Norbury’s extensive knowledge has led him to recognised as a highly-respected figure in the NAND flash market with over 23 years of B2B sales, marketing and project management experience specialising in the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) sector.

As well as having an office in Devizes, Cardwave also have an office in Texas, USA and over the last 12 years, the company has seen a number of milestones including accreditations for various quality standards (ISO9001/14001), plus winning awards for business performance and being recognised for charitable and environmental work.

Up until 2014, Mr Norbury was an elected board member and vice-president of the SD Association – an international organisation of more than 1,000 members of leading technology companies charged with setting memory card settings.

Vijay Tanna, partner in accounting and business services at RSM, handed the award to Mr Norbury.

He said: “Mr Norbury started in business some 10 years ago and has had his ups and downs along the way. His commitment to grow the business and to ensure its long term sustainability by having the right team around him, his entrepreneurial flair and commitment to the community were evident throughout his application.”

Mr Norbury was previously runner up for the Business Person of the Year in 2011 and 2013.
