SWINDON-based packaging experts Wadsell Packaging scooped the award for Medium Sized Enterprise at the Wiltshire Business Awards on Friday (April 15).

The company, which was founded in 1971 and is one of the largest and most experienced contract packaging suppliers to the healthcare industry in Europe, has grown considerably since moving to new headquarters in Swindon.

The company moved to its 100,000 sq ft purpose-designed facility, which contains 16 purpose-built production suites which are fully goods manufacturing practices (GMP) certified, in 2010.

Daniel Tedham, Operations Manager at Wasdell, said: “It feels fantastic to win, it’s great to see our progress and growth being realised and recognised throughout the county.

“As a service-orientated business, you’re only as good as your last order, so you need to keep standards high, and we endeavour to do that with every new customer.

“Things are looking very bright for us at the moment.”

Production takes place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, employing a workforce of over 250 staff at the Swindon HQ.

With Vineham Engineering now part of the Wasdell Group and on the same site as Wasdell Packaging, the business benefits from the former’s tooling production and technical support.

And the acquisition of Burnley-based Qualiti Limited has again enhanced the Wasdell Group’s production capabilities, further increasing its speed to market using QBL’s high speed packaging equipment.

Jon Hemming, director banking in North Wiltshire for NatWest, who sponsored the category, said: “All entries were of a high standard. Setting them apart has been a challenge but back when the judges met the businesses, we said a key element to winning was growth, sustainability, innovative ideas, new products, attractiveness in the market place and looking after staff.

“This company did all of the above and it is has gone from strength-to-strength.”
