I WISH people would stop being so negative about converting historic buildings for other use (SA July 9). Swindon Civic Voice has objected to the conversion of the old Victorian college in Victoria Road, saying that there are better uses than housing.

They may be right, though I cannot think of a better use for that building than houses for people, but even so I’d say anything at all would be good, but soon.

For goodness sake, don’t let this be yet another example of endless conversations between the council and anyone else, no matter how interested.

All that will happen then is that the building will be allowed to decay for years, even if damp-proofed immediately, and we will be bored to death by everlasting arguments going on for years, like the Mechanics Institute for example.

Be brave, David Renard et al, take charge and deliver for all our sakes. You’ve done it before, you sorted out the library and college site. You can do it, so do it soon please.
