On September 15, a friend I went to a public house in West Swindon for a midday meal and a chat, and while we were there we observed two young lads, in their middle/late 20s, both from Hungary, or so they said, come into the bar.

One was carrying an Asda carrier bag which contained a pack of beer, not sure if it was a 10,12 or 24 pack type.

They went to the bar, had some selfie type photos taken with the bar staff. All the while, they were drinking at the bar and each time they obtained another round, they paid by means of a card.

After a while my friend asked the landlord what was going on, and he told him that they were getting the drinks by means of a social services card.

Now I’m not sure if that is meant for food or what. Did they get the pack of beer on the same card?

My friend and I are both retired and have worked all our working lives, but we don’t have a social card to get drunk on.

So can our MPs tell us what is going on? The local social services office refused to comment.
