Recent press releases from the Great Western Hospital have highlighted serious issues that exist between the Trust and the facilities management company Carillion.
GWH strategy director Kevin McNamara says in a statement: “Concerns about food hygiene and cleanliness have posed a potential risk to patients, visitors and staff which is completely unacceptable.”
The cleaning staff and kitchen staff are compassionate, dedicated and hard working. As local residents they are also stakeholders in the Trust that serves them and their families.
This has led to individuals raising concerns with the management directly and through the GMB Union. After a round of redundancies last year, questions were raised with regards to Carillion’s continued ability to provide the appropriate staffing level and service required by the Trust.
It is worrying that the Trust is also reported as saying the “Trust now lacks the confidence in Carillion” to resolve the issues.
It is in the interest of all residents of the borough that the Trust resolves this serious problem as a matter of priority.
