As one of those correspondents Bill Hughes apparently refers to as being in a “frenzy” over the EU, I would like the opportunity to reply.
The EU is in many ways an anti democratic organisation. Supporters such as Mr Hughes demonstrate this by inviting us to “curb our frenzy” because most respondents to an opinion poll support membership. Presumably in Mr Hughes’ world because the 56 per cent have spoken, the 44 per cent should not.
History is littered with examples of the majority supporting something which later turned out to be a bad idea. So with his permission I will continue to overflow with frenzy even if 99.9 per cent disagree with me: that is my birthright.
