Supporters of the European Court of Human Rights mostly miss the point.

It is just not acceptable that judges representing Azerbaijan, Montenegro, Moldova and the Russian Federation should be dictating to us in the UK on what is or is not ‘human rights’.

To make it worse, the European Court of Human Rights has exploited the 1945 settlement to become legally activist.

In parallel, the European Arrest Warrant has the consequence that we in the UK cannot defend our own citizens or residents from arbitrary arrest on the say-so of prosecutors in the EU member states.

This is a blatant breach of human rights.

Where your correspondents are accurate, is on the cynical, political posturing of Chris Grayling MP, the Lord Chancellor.

The Conservative-led government will be voting to opt back in to the European Arrest Warrant before 2014 is out.
