Following some of the letters that have appeared in the Swindon Advertiser recently regarding the roadworks, I feel compelled to join in.
The Council did a consultation quite a while ago now, on what to do with the roundabouts on Great Western Way, encompassing Bruce Street Bridges and Transfer Bridges to ease the town’s flow of traffic on one of its major roads.
I completed this consultation, giving them my thoughts, mostly from the point of a cyclist living in Swindon at the time.
I am fully on board with the changes to be made to Bruce Street Bridges as I believe it will make it much easier to travel across this section of town than previously. I am pleased to see that the work is actually now underway. Some of the comments I’ve read in the paper over the last couple of weeks make me feel as though as a general rule those that live in Swindon don’t really want the town to change too much or only in a way that doesn’t inconvenience us all. Yes, it’s frustrating, but there is little to be gained in going on and on about it. Let’s show the rest of the county that we can take these disruptions in our stride instead of bemoaning something that is ultimately going to work better for us.
