CAN we never be happy? This, of all times of the year, is supposed to be the season of goodwill.

And what do we see in our newspapers? Black Friday, with people tearing each other to pieces, practically for the sake of plasma TV.

For those people who live apart from their loved ones and need to travel home over the festive season, we are now told they are to expect misery and chaos on the roads and the railways. Charming.

Elsewhere, elderly couples are being attacked in their own homes, a savage outrage which brought tears to my eyes.

And the police are still searching for grim clues that might tell the untold story of poor Becky Godden-Edwards, whose mother has been so astonishingly brave and committed throughout such a horrible tragedy.

I despair of so many of the human race, I really do, because why on earth would you choose to cause harm to people around you?

Imagine a planet where we all live in peace and harmony and do good rather than evil unto each other.

That would be my Christmas Wish – I only wish someone could grant it.

Perhaps everyone’s New Year’s resolutions could be to live a better life, be a better friend and neighbour and make the whole world a better place. After all, that would benefit everyone. Mark my words, what goes around comes around.
