Guy Green advocates not voting in the next election because all politicians are dishonest (Letters, December 16). Perhaps that is a case for not voting for “professional politicians”, but not all candidates can be tarred with this brush.

I suspect both Swindon seats may have a choice of at least five candidates at the next election, so there is at least a chance that one or two could be considered honest?

I would also advocate taking a quick look at all the parties’ policies.

For those of us on the web, there is a convenient website, voteforpolicies.org.uk, that has summarised the policies of six national parties in eight policy areas. This is well worth a look.

As far as I can tell they have no political affiliation or funding.

Regular readers of the letters page probably have a good idea which party I support, but if you have checked the policies properly and make a different choice, then you get my respect for at least standing apart from those too apathetic to bother.

If I haven’t convinced you to make a positive choice, then I suggest turning up and spoiling your ballot paper.

If enough people do this, then at least those in power know the level of discontent their actions generate.

If you don’t at least do this, then you have given tacit approval to those who are elected.
