e ‘Charlie’s hyprocrisy’ (Axmed Bahjad, SA, January 21). He states: “In France students are not allowed to learn the history of its vicious actions in Africa and the Far East.”

I assume by this he means that education officials, censors, teachers, priests, imams etc regularly police the thousands of French book shops, and of course, not forgetting Amazon et al in order to prevent French students from gaining knowledge of that period in French history?

What utter nonsense, Axmed Bahjad!

As for his claim that Maurice Sine was sacked for anti-Semitism at Charlie Hebdo’s – this is not correct!

Maurice Sine wasn’t fired for anti-Semitism, even if that was the ‘crime’ he was charged with.

He was fired because he attacked the son of the then French President Nicolas Sarkozy for marrying a Jewish heiress, calling it a good political move(“il ira loin, ce petit!”– he’ll go far, that lad!).

Labelling it an anti-semitic move meant that powerful interest groups (LICRA is an anti-racist advocate group) would do most of the leg work without the President getting involved. Thus, he was sacked for insulting the then president’s son!

He is fond of advising Adver readers about the mockery of the prophet Mohammed by Charlie Hebdo, but fails to advise us of the interminable numbers of muslims who run Islamic newspapers which, like Hitler’s Nazis, mock Jews.

For example, a few years ago a daily Tehran Islamic newspaper ran a competition to find the “best” cartoons about the Holocaust. This is not an isolated incident either.

As Axmed Bahjad says: “The cartoons expose a double standard.”

Too right, Axmed.
