I have been amused but not surprised by the huge interest in retiring Page 3 girls from The Sun newspaper.

Frankly, as Swindon’s first Page 3 girl, I cannot see what the fuss is all about!

Lucy-Anne Holmes got tired of seeing beautiful female images in the newspaper, citing the images were ‘too sexual’ for a family newspaper and wrote to the editor at the time asking for it be removed.

She, and others believe the media are representing women as only fit to be eye candy for men. What utter nonsense!

For centuries the female form has been admired, and why not?

Art collectors pay huge sums of money to own a Goya, Reuben, Picasso or a Cezanne; and let’s not forget Michelangelo’s sculpture of the male form ‘David’. I would hate to be labelled sexist!

Many more pay good money to go to art galleries to stand and gaze at nude women.

People like Ms Holmes are actually doing more harm than good for their cause; they are restricting a women’s right to remove her clothes in the name of art, Page 3 or whatever. One woman taking her top off does not represent all women.

This country is very well represented with women holding down professions previously only men would have applied for.

We have women doctors, bus drivers, firefighters, electricians etc. I myself am in a profession that would probably have been done by a man 30 years ago. That is what REAL equality is all about. Choice.

What next? Will Ms Holmes patrol Bournemouth beach with her clipboard looking for signatures? I suggest Ms Holmes tries to find a worthy cause to benefit from all the spare time she obviously has on her hands.
