In his letter ‘Out of Order’, March 10, Bill Williams tells me to get my facts right. The facts are that on three separate occasions Mr Williams has written to the Advertiser making sexist jokes.

For example, in “It’s time for a holiday”, he states that women “slave daily to bring up (their husbands’) brood, cooking and cleaning, washing and ironing”.

This is a direct quote and regardless of its intention and Mr Williams’s work for women’s rights, is still sexist. What, then, is unfounded or inaccurate about my remarks Mr Williams?

I would also like to point out that he says my remarks upset his family. In the same way, surely his accusation that I do not respect my elders (“Not on her agenda”, March 4) would be upsetting and disrespectful to my family, including my gran and the neighbours I consider to be my surrogate grandparents. Yet he does not seem to have taken this into account at all when accusing me. (For clarity’s sake, I would like to say that none of us were offended – we have bigger things to worry about).

Finally, I would like to point out that nowhere in any of my letters did I link his comments to his political beliefs. The letters page is a place for readers’ opinions, not just political debates.

May I also thank the Webb brothers for their support. Their letter quite frankly made my day. It was nice to be supported in my opinion, and I was incredibly grateful.
