SWINDON Phoenix Rotary Club wish to thank everyone who made Saturdays ‘Know Your Own Blood Pressure Day’ such a success.

Especially Swindon’s Brunel Centre Management team for once again supplying us with a shop for the whole day, our volunteer nurses and other volunteers working alongside Swindon Phoenix Rotary members and of course the Stroke Association for supplying all the paperwork, forms and posters for this annual event throughout the UK.

In all a team of 34 people working in shifts all day with each and everyone staying longer than they were asked, thereby enabling us to top last year’s numbers from 250 to 280 blood pressure readings this year.

We referred three people for further checks straight away and several to visit their doctor’s in a week or so, proving what a worthwhile exercise this annual event is.

Comments were made on the very slick and speedy operation, with our Rotarian ‘barkers’ outside enticing folk inside to the waiting area, then over to the form filling paperwork team and then to our charming nurses and volunteers for the actual readings.

Everyone who received a reading went away with documentary evidence of their personal reading and information on the importance of having regular readings in the future Overall verdict - real teamwork, a joy to be part of, also a lot of fellowship and laughs along the way with all the team and the public.

It was a pleasure for Swindon Phoenix Rotary Club to support the citizens of Swindon at this event and we now look forward to greeting them at our Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 28 June at Coate Water, where admission and parking are free of charge.
