I WAS interested in two letters from Steve Thompson and Steve Deeley regarding the removal of ivy from trees by Ron Chadwick, rightly stating that ivy is essential to wildlife of all forms, particularly at this time of year when wildlife is breeding.

However, I would like to go further and say that Swindon Borough Council have gone even beyond just removing ivy.

They have been around the town cutting back tree branches and bushes down to the ground.

Around the Ramleaze and Middleleaze area they have left an awful mess with some of the grass verges looking like ploughed fields caused by the wheels of the large tractor they use.

Is it so difficult for those responsible for carrying out this work to do it in the autumn, not spring, when the wildlife is breeding?

We are told the bird population is in decline. Is it little wonder when their habitats are being destroyed by the likes of SBC?
