I READ in the SA of 21 April that the police were going to install spy cameras around the area known as the Venny and in the nearby woods.

The Hreod Burna Urban Forest charity is in negotiation with the council to lease these woods but but have not been consulted in this matter.

While agreeing that motorcyclists should not use the area, as chairman of HBUF, I feel that we would not want all users of these woods spied on in the manner of Big Brother.

As to the other proposal, to put motorcycle gates around the area these would not only be useless and expensive as there are wide areas of grass either side of some of the paths, but not lawful.

It is a requirement to allow room for wheelchairs and mobility scooters to have access; these would be prevented by the gates.

The path that runs between Cricklade Road and Pinehurst Road is a bridle path and access for horses is legally required.

These proposals must be dropped at once and a sensible solution to motorcyclists found that includes all interested parties.
