FOLLOWING closure of the National BKVA in January this year, a new organisation has been formed for Veterans of the Korean War; The British Korean War Veterans Association.

The war started in June 1950 with Communist North Korea invading the democratic South Korea. United Nations forces came to the aid of the South but had to face an onslaught from the Chinese who were backing the North. A cease-fire was declared on July 27, 1953; there has never been an official peace agreement made.

UK forces suffered the loss of over 1,000 service personnel, more than the combined losses suffered in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan wars. They are buried in the United Nations Cemetery at Busan in South Korea.

The objective of the new Association is to ensure that those whose final resting place is in that far off land are “Never Forgotten”. Families of Korean War Veterans and those who share an interest in the aims of the Association are very welcome to join.
