AT THIS time of cuts to all funding to all the services in and around town, I have a few solutions that the Swindon Council can do to reduce costs.

1. Finish the Bruce Street traffic circle: Every time I whizz past there are three or four blokes gazing into a hole that has been dug by a fifth person in a digger;

2. The cost of converting Commercial Road to a 20mph road — instead of spending £55,000 of our money, just put 20mph signs on each of the lamp posts and repaint the line to double white all along. That will slow all the young cowboys to be able to stop at the now most famous unmarked pedestrian crossing in the world, and convert to a zebra crossing with the flashing balls — I say about £5,000 would cover the cost;

3. Teach the blokes that paint double yellow lines to measure if a car can go through a walk path;

4. Widen Akers Way with two lanes each way up to St Mary’s Church. All the guys will then whizz through from Mannington traffic circle to Bruce Street and then on to Akers Way, saving millions on the 20-year-old plan through Sparcells and Westlea.

5. Spot fine every person seen throwing litter. In Singapore even if you spit out gum you are arrested , This will halt fly tipping and blokes picking up some one else’s rubbish

6. Pray for further guidance.

To end on a positive note, I must compliment the binmen who are always so cheerful — I lost my harmonica and a treasured photo when I took out the recycling. They found them and left them on the bin.
