WHAT is democracy? The Greeks, whose country cradled the concept, must now be very confused about that matter, especially so, because their country was relatively recently occupied by the Nazi army of what is now the most powerful voice in the EU.

Our Prime Minister who refers to the leader of a major elected party of what is currently the Parliament of our United Kingdom as “opportunist” just because she and her party will not do his bidding on hunting with dogs, has become the equivalent of the little boy who takes his football home and leaves the pitch just because the other side scores a goal.

Trade unions, once the lone voice of oppressed workers in a capitalist paradise often abuse their position by claiming democratic authority for taking actions that are clearly not supported by a relatively large minority of their disinterested membership, though little research seems to have been done into why this should be.

And the attitude is reflected nationally in votes for both local councils and central government.

Put those two paragraphs above together and what do we get?

Having lost the fight on fox hunting without a shot being fired, our recently elected small majority increasingly right wing government decides that it is going to force the trade unions to be more democratic.

One must wonder what will be the SNP view on that.

Be that as it may, the PM may have a point. But sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, and must surely be a good democratic rule in that case.

Let the new rules of democratic correctness, dreamt up by Conservative anti-union planners, apply to all our democratic processes; General Elections, local elections, referenda, Parliamentary votes on everything they do to and for us.

If not, then let the Camerons return to the land of their ancestors.
