IN MY letter “Who has EU vote?” (Swindon Advertiser, March 11) I estimated the figures back to front.
I should have said that the UK gives the EU £55,000,000 a day for membership to the club. The EU keeps £45,000,000 plus a day (or 81 per cent plus) and subsidises the UK with £10,000,000 minus a day (or less than 19 per cent).
The 27 EU countries are absolutely terrified that the UK may vote to leave.
They are panicking for the following reasons. First and foremost no £45,000,000 plus a day to bail out (sorry, I should have said subsidise) the tottering EU economies like Greece, Portugal, Italy, France and a number of the newly joined countries.
Secondly, no freedom of movement to access employment in our growing economy.
Thirdly, no free British NHS, which is undoubtedly the best health service in the world.
Now, before anyone says that you can get operations and care cheaper in other EU countries, I agree.
The simple reason for that is that they are all here enjoying free treatment and causing our NHS to struggle to cope.
Fourthly, there would be no welfare for them from the most generous system in the EU.
Just imagine them not being able to send our generous Child Benefits home.
There are a number of other reasons but I would like to point out a massive bonus for us out of the EU.
I refer to the latest budget by the Chancellor. Out of the EU means no £55,000,000 a day going out of our coffers.
Osborne could still subsidise all those being subsidise to the tune of £10,000,000 a day and still have £45,000,000 a day surplus to stop drastic cuts to the disabled.
Please note £45,000,000 a day is £16.425 billion a year.
He only wants to have a small surplus by 2020. If he only used £10.425 billion of the saving from EU membership a year he would have £6 billion a year surplus.
Think about it before you vote and remember the wine lakes and the butter mountains and the quotas handed out to our fishing industry to fish in our own territorial waters.
