President's backing

AS Barack Obama the 44th President of The United States of America makes his obligatory visit to the United Kingdom prior to leaving office, he has chosen to act in support of his friend David Cameron and offer his pearls of wisdom on whether or not we should remain in the EU.

Unsurprisingly he suggests that NATO, the talking shop which is the UN and the EU have equal value in today’s world, even worse he suggests we should revere these institutions as providers of democracy, open markets and peace in Europe for seventy years.

I am reminded of the words of George Washington – the first President of The United States who said “history and experience prove, that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of government” he went on to say “The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible”

Finally he stated “Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none, or a very remote relation – our detached and distant situation invites and enables us to pursue a different course”

I think the USA has demonstrated on many occasions that whatever words emanate from Mr Obama’s mouth, its foreign policy and attitude towards other sovereign nations is still aimed at extending commercial relations while avoiding political connection. Indeed and even today their ‘detached and distant situation invites and enables the USA to pursue a different course’

I'll bet it's Sam Cam

A NATIONAL newspaper, the Daily Express, has just printed a story that a mysterious female from London has put a £100,000 bet on Britain to remain in the Disunion.

The way the British Prime Minister is carrying on with his over zealous fervour for this disastrous organisation. When even Juncker in the same newspaper states his doubts about its failures. Remember Jean-Claude Juncker the European Commission President, salary, wait for it. £250,000 a year with his massive expenses and perks.

In view of this. My finger of suspicion regarding the lady mentioned makes me come to only one conclusion. It must have been Samantha Cameron using a part of Dave’s gift of £200,000 from his mother, as you do! From his father's tax free accumulation of wealth. She probably went incognito into the betting shop with a burka over her face, which would also muffle her cut glass accent. With matching attire to hide her give-away ankle tattoo. We all know Dave’s obsession with image.

Dodgy Dave was probably hiding around the corner in disguise with his accomplice, Gormless Gideon. Both dressed up in suits made from the same cloth as the European flag, with matching SS visor caps.To avoid attention, and emphasise their unbiased view regarding Brexit to the electorate. There are more of Dave's fingerprints over this one, than there were tear drops from the Celtic end at Hampden last Sunday . Or from the other end of the spectrum. Than smiles from the Rangers end. Bill Williams.

Tax avoiders

IN answer to Alex Hegenbarth’s letter (Head of Britain Stronger in Europe) regarding rich tax avoiders supporting Bretex, surely he must be talking in parallel terms when considering the recently published Panamanian papers where most of of them are from all of the main UK parties at Westminster plus the corporates in the UK who conveniently choose EU countries for their tax dodging.

Perhaps he would also like to tell us who are the £billions fraudsters in the EU who are responsible for the auditors not having signed off the annual budgets for the past 20 years.; although it is suspected that the biggest budget – the Common Agricutural Policy might very well be the suspected.

Stronger in Europe must surely be some sort of music hall joke.

And what about the other joke? The Panamanian papers have now prompted David Cameron into selling off the Land Registry to a private buyer who just happens to be based in Europe.

So that puts paid to people finding out where the land owners who own most of the expensive houses in London are tax dodging.

There are people waiting in the wings to take control of our country and putting the Great back in Great Britain, so bye bye David and George and the remainder of the old School who have massive incentives in the EU game.

It is time for us to take control of our sovereignty.

Vote leave if you agree, or suffer the consequences of all the nasties we have been subjected to by our masters in Brussels.

Yours sincerely

Made in China

STEVE Halden is quite correct in his remarks concerning “Buy British.”

I have recently bought a cereal bowl from Kelloggs – only to be very disappointed to find out it was made in China.

No doubt it is all to do with “trade” but it is a pity nonetheless.

Neutrality clause

I ASSUME Swindon Advertiser will apply it’s usual neutrality clause to the letters page during the local elections by not having a letters page as it did during the General Election.

Could you therefore apply the same type of neutrality, in the run up to the election, to the Tory propaganda columns from our local MP and the Leader of Swindon Borough Council, which we are bombarded with every week without an equal amount of space or more than a few lines occasionally from the leader of Swindon Labour Party Jim Grant.

You could either remove the columns from next week or give Jim Grant a column permanently. I know the Liberal Democrats would complain but as my old Dad used to say "they’re the Tories with their boots off” which they spectacularly proved when they got into bed with the Tories during the Coalition Government. Supporting the disastrous top down reorganisation of the NHS and backtracking on tuition fees they only started digging their heels in when the last election was imminent.

UKIP supporters will probably complain but Nigel Farage and his cronies get enough coverage in the national media and press to compensate whereas Jeremy Corbyn has to mainly rely on social media to get his unexpurgated message across.

I'm not signing this!

IN what I considered a very hypocritical letter, someone going by the sobriquet Big Ron complains of correspondents to your paper being insulting to Bill Williams.

I consider it hypocritical because in his previous letter he refers to those disagreeing with Bill as being “gets” the Scottish form of git and a contraction of misbegotten.

I find it rather unusual that you allow Big Ron the use of an alias at the bottom of his letters. Neither I nor any other letter writer has ever used a pseudonym. Indeed being proud of our opinions and of our freedom of expression we have used our names openly.

By using an appellation we do not know who Big Ron is, he could even be Bill himself using an alias, though I assume not, Bill being an honourable chap.

I had always assumed that you did not allow the use of pseudonyms, but as you have apparently changed your position on tags I shall henceforth sign my letters with the the nom de plume: Stevie Macsteveface

Futile roadworks

I’D like to express my annoyance at the futile road alterations to Drove Rd.

The only change to traffic will be tailbacks. Why didn’t they spend the money on repairing the roads that are screaming out for repairs. Swindon’s roads are an absolute disgrace. You can bet your life on hitting at least one 50mm crater on any short journey you need to make.
