SEVERAL months ago I complained to the town council, through a local councillor, that three large commercial waste bins outside my property, on the paved area shared with the main Trowbridge Post Office, were an obstruction.
These bins are unsightly and do nothing to enhance the area and can only attract vermin when filled to overflowing. They obstruct use of the public cycle racks and restrict free access to my entrances.
The town council reported my concerns to Wiltshire Council who showed little interest in maintaining a pleasant appearance to one our busiest buildings in the town, County Hall, suggesting there was no alternative, and have done nothing.
Earlier this year the bins must have been kept somewhere that they did not cause a nuisance to me and those who live above my business premises.
Wiltshire Council encourages the community to help keep the area clean through the various “friends” organisations. It would help if the council did their best to encourage businesses to act responsibly and in this case, not to dump their bins anywhere they please.
I’m sure that most would be unhappy if neighbours left their large bins outside your readers’ houses instead of their own. Not just on collection days but seven days a week.
I must say that I am tempted to move the bins away from my door but it’s a long way to push heavy overflowing bins to Bythesea Road.
